Between Fethiye and Kas, Kalkan is a fishing village of unrivaled charm, nestled between the sea and soaring Taurus Mountains. Its old town is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets that lead down to the harbour, home to elegant Turkish gulets that can be hired for lazy days out at sea. Kalkan has a wonderful array of shops that sell high quality Turkish goods and boasts a multitude of excellent rooftop and harbourside restaurants that serve top quality freshly cooked food.
Kalkan has a small pebble beach and several beach clubs - rock gardens cut into the hillside beside the sea. Some offer water sports such as water skiing, banana rides, jet ski and diving. Nearby are Kaputas Beach, a spectacular sandy cove and Patara, 18km of golden sand backed by dunes and home to protected turtles.
Historic sites nearby include Xanthos, Letoon, and the sunken city of Kekova.
