Local Attractions:
Carrouges: This small market town is only a 10 minute walk away and has many shops including 2 supermarkets, 2 bakers, delicatessen, butcher, post office, newsagent, and pharmacy. There are also 2 hotels each with its own restaurant and bar, 2 café bars and 3 further restaurants offering crepes, pizzas and traditional french cuisine. On Wednesday morning is the market where products from the local area can be purchased. Carrouges Chateau: 14th-16th Century red brick Chateau surrounded by a moat, magnificent gatehouse and grounds containing a splendid collection of apple and pear trees
Maison du Parc: A visitors centre for the Parc Regional Normandie-Maine, housed in a restored chapter-house.
Cider Farm: Family run business where you can sample the cider and see how it is produced.
Real Ale Brewery: English run brewery at Joue-du-Bois is well worth a visit to sample the distinctive beers.
Fishing: As well as our own lakes there are many others in the area.
Trips Out:
Argentan: Larger than La Ferte-Mace with good shopping, many restaurants with a variety of cuisines (nearest place for a Chinese) and a swimming centre. A busy market around the church takes place every Tuesday.
Festyland: Definitely one for the kids! This theme park is northwest of Caen (just over an hour from Carrouges) very reasonably priced and has plenty to occupy the under 12’s for a day.
Seasides: Next to the ferry port at Ouistreham is an attractive seaside resort (about 1hr 10mins). The popular resort has a casino, crazy golf and plenty of free parking. Also highly recommended is the picturesque seaside town of Houlgate with its impressive seafront villas built in the 19th century.
D-Day landing beaches: Carrouges is well placed for visiting the many museums, memorials and battlements dedicated to recording and remembering the liberation of Europe.
Mont St Michel: Steeped in history, this unique island, 1km in circumference, is attached to the main land by a causeway.
