Gambassi Terme holiday apartment: Gambassi Terme (Firenze)

Our first trip to Tuscany was a memorable one.
We were hopeful that once we got there, the pictures and description of the property we selected on the internet would be accurate - well, they were more than accurate, we were taken aback by the splendid, breathtaking views. The place was immaculate, with all modern conveniences; peaceful surroundings and, we lucked out on the weather in May that was more like July weather. The location is also a short drive to many famous cities and you can do day trips easily (a car is a must). We were always happy to return at the end of the afternoon and sit on the terrace and take in the views of the vineyards that lay at our feet with a 180o "unobstructed" panomara. We had breakfast and dinner every single day we were there.
The owners were perfect hosts, without being intrusive; we were the ones who sought them out to have friendly conversations. They explained how they took three years to refurbish the old building now housing La Lucciola with magnificent results. We were totally thrilled with the place, so much so that, after a couple of days, my husband said, while barbecuing in the backyard looking out to the vineyards, "I'm going to sell my house in Canada and move HERE!" We hope you enjoy your stay at Country House Nazzano, and particularly at La Lucciola, as much as we did. We hope to return someday and can guarantee that you will not be disappointed in any way. Villa was very much as pictured, nicely restored and maintained with beautiful outdoor patio and amazing view --very lovely for eating outside, reading, etc. Master bedroom was comfortable. 2nd bedroom is a small loft (not suitable for very young children because of steep stairs but fine for older kids and teens) and was hot at night until we received the fan. Not all windows and neither of the doors have screens -- we like to keep out flying and creeping critters but it seems that many rentals have no screens at all so Nazzano was ahead in this respect. Property is shared with other renters but was private and mostly quiet. Kitchen well out-fitted (except could use one sharp knife!) and all appliances worked well. Miriam and Carlo were available and friendly but very limited English. House is a few km from town of Certaldo -- make sure to visit Certaldo Alto (ancient town) and there are a couple of good restaurants in the town, especially La Saletta. Also a very good food Coop in Certaldo (and a public pool but we didn't go there). Tourist Information office is next to train station. Certaldo is about one hour S of Florence (we drove and parked free at Plaza Michelangelo -- walked into town) and only 15 km from San Gimignano. You will definitely need a car.
