A quaint and spacious oak-beamed cottage with large terraces, gardens and plenty of parking spaces in a rural village. Suitable for up to 7 people. Gas and electric heating throughout. Books, board games, DVDs & and videos provided. Ground Floor: Fully-equipped kitchen next to dining area and through to sitting room with UK satellite/video/DVD TV and music centre. Shower room (include double vanity unit, toilet and washing machine). Hall and second toilet. Large twin bedroom. First Floor: landing, double bedroom, twin bedroom and a single bedroom with video TV, suitable for a games console. Outside: Patio table and barbecue. 4 bicycles in the shed. Situated in a farming valley, close to woods and signposted walks. Large wine merchants in village. Traveling baker and grocer van. 5 miles from the small town of Hesdin for supermarkets, bars, restaurants etc. There's a great Bar/Brasserie in the village (200 yards) and 2 other Bar/Brasseries at about 1 mile.

Additional information about rental rates

  • The length of minimum stay is flexible. 5-7 people for a long (3-4 day) weekend would be acceptable. For 2-4 people, the minimum stay is 4 nights, although you can stay less, but we have to charge for 4. The minimum number of people is 4. A couple are welcome to book, but the rate would be for 4 people. Because it's a large house with some set costs that can't be reduced (cleaning, water heating etc), we have a minimum rate of £200 per booking. If your party is small (2 or 3 people) or you only want a short 3 or 4 day break please bear this in mind.
    From Jan 2010, we will no longer have those unfair different rates for summer, winter, school holidays etc - just one flat rate throughout the year.
    £100 fully-returnable deposit required. Small breakages, such as the odd glass or cup, are not counted.
    Your payment may be made in Euros, if preferred.

  • The main shower room was completely renewed 3 years ago. The cloakroom (loo and hand basin) were created 3 years ago. Please note that we no longer provide towels for individual guests. (We will still provide one hand towel at each sink.)

  • The largest bedroom is a twin bed room on the ground floor. The mattress on the double bed upstairs was new last year and all the single beds are only 6 years old. All bed-linen is no more than 3 years old. All bedrooms are carpeted throughout - most carpet was new last year.

Notes: The two sofas in the lounge area are sofa beds. These can be converted to double beds but no extra bedding is provided specifically for them. If you want extra guests, they can be accommodated here. The additional daily rate is the same, but bear in mind the other factors (crowding, dining space, comfy seating, etc etc) Wheelchair access is easy, as there's no steps at either the front or back door. Bedroom 1 is on the ground floor. There are no special considerations in the bathroom, except that there's an integral seat in the shower compartment. Dustbin day is Wednesday around 8 am. Black bin bags are provided for rubbish (which includes plastic and paper, but NO glass. They won't take a bag with bottles in it Put the bags out on the roadside at the front of the house on Tuesday night. Glass can be recycled in the green bin by the music foyer on the other side of the river (150 yards away).

Travel Information: By car, it's only an hour from the Calais ports or Boulogne. Full directions are provided before your travel, plenty of maps are to be found in a drawer, on arrival One key to the front door will be posted in advance. There is a spare key available, so your party can split into groups but still get back inside.

Sports Equipment: There are 4 adult bicycles in the shed, but only one helmet. A puncture repair kit and pump are included. Two sets of golf clubs (and a spare bag, to make a third, reduced set) are available at no extra cost ( please replace any balls etc). Barbecue: Some charcoal and wood should be under the barbie. Please replace with same, if used.

Suitability: Pets are welcome at no extra charge. Smoking is permitted, preferably outdoors ! Wheelchair use is possible, as there's no steps, a ground floor bedroom, a shower with an integral moulded seat but there's no special equipment (grab rails etc).

A lovely French house, with all the facilities of a home from home.Attractive, well-maintained, wholesome and clean, with a very efficient service provided by the owner. The setting was a charming, tranquil village, with beautiful surrounding countryside. Further afield are many interesting towns and facilities, and good access from UK would make this suitable for a short break or long stay. . . . . .my ideal heaven!

A Perfect Holiday Break

We are currently awaiting our third stay at Dickie and Barbara's country cottage. All dealings with Dickie and Barbara have been most pleasant and helpful.

When we arrived, first time as a party of three and second time as a party of four, we immediately felt at home in the spacious accommodation: plenty of rooms to choose from for sleeping arrangements, and our son, who uses a wheelchair managed very well downstairs with fairly easy access to the shower room and toilet. Our teenage daughter thought the cottage was brilliant, and she is not that easy to please.

While the accommodation is quaint and roomy with the main living area heavily beamed with heavy lush curtaining and comfortable furniture, the village itself is also charming and we visited the excellent restaurant (Le Secret Garden) several times. People are friendly and access to the coast, Montreul or Hesdin for shopping, is easy by the main roads which provide access.

Even when staying-in, there is a collection of DVDs and books (in English) and the garden is fine for that
obligatory barbeque. Indeed we enjoyed a bottle or two of local wine over the spacious dining table when not venturing out-doors, so if you like to take it easy, not doing much at all, like the French countryside and people, or would rather visits to the seaside, meeting locals or investigating various tourist attractions, then this is a venue that is hard to beat.

We have been holidaying in gites for 20 plus years now, so we are pleased to make this a most highly recommended holiday cottage: you will not be disappointed.

We had a wonderful time in this lovely house.
A gorgeous sunny garden - peaceful and private.
The house itself was clean, comfortable and very well equipped - we wanted for nothing.
The village of Fressin has the ruins of the castle - out the front door and turn left - it is just a few minutes walk.
We had several days out, all within an hour of the house - Le Touquet for the beach, St Valery for the Sunday market and the little shops and restaurants, Amiens - a must. Great shopping and enough touristy bits to keep everyone happy.
We have been to this house before and have already booked again for later this year.

Great accommodation, great setting

Our family lives close by and we needed a convenient location to visit with our pet dog Parker. The accommodation is very spacious, well-appointed, very clean and very comfortable. Fressin is a beautiful location, with plenty of walks nearby with stunning views across the valley. The chateau in the village is an interesting place to visit, there is a great market in Hesdin on Thursdays and it's only an hour drive to the coast. The new restaurant - Secret Garden - is a short walk away and the hosts are extremely friendly. We are both vegetarian and they made a great effort to accommodate us, cooking a special meal.

We would highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a relaxing break in France.

Dickie and Barbara were extremely friendly and helpful.

Thank you for a great holiday, we will come again!
Owner's Response: After a couple of visits to the nearby re-opened restaurant, the 'Secret Garden', we can heartily recommend the place. Vincent, the genial chef, and his wife both speak some English, so the mysteries of the menu can be explained to non-French speakers.
Menus start from around €12 lunch, €15 dinner and wine from €12 a bottle.
