Apartment Emma

We travelled as a family of four (childrens ages 10, 13) to Split and arrived late at night. Dalmatian property services were happy to meet us even though our flight was delayed by an hour. The apartment was very clean and tidy, and a lot larger than the pictures showed. The air-conditioning was great but did not reach the bedrooms, but it wasn't a huge problem for us. The down side was that the flat is quite remote and the nearest supermarket is about 15 mins walk away. Bring a few things with you for the first day if you arrive at night. We did everything by foot for the first few days, then rented a car for the final four. There are pros and cons to both. Everything can be done by foot, but to get a boat to Trogir, there is a 20min walk through tight roads, with no footpaths, but lots of people seem to do it. However, with a car, it can be an hours wait to get from the mainland to get the island, as there is only one bridge on Trogir, and also a wait from the island to the mainland. But hiring a car is a must to get from place to place. This did seem to be at certain times of the day 10/11am, and other times it wasn't a problem.
The property was perfect and the views spectacular from the balcony. We had no problems with anything in the flat, however there could be a bit more information about the local area. The communal pool was quite small, but not over crowded. The island is just amazing and such an interesting place to explore. The kids were fascinated with all the fish in the water and the water was a gorgeous temperature, quite flat, and a beautiful aqua colour. The beaches we visited were all pebble beaches, but the local shops all sell shoes for the beaches for about three pounds. Or flip flops will do for the beach. I thought it would be more of a problem, but the clarity of the water and the gorgeous temperature changed my mind. We visited Krka national park, which was very stunning and we wished we had more time to explore it. We also did white-water rafting on the Cetina river which was just fantastic for kids and adults alike. We didn't really experience a lot of the local food, but there is a large Italian influence so there was always something on the menu the kids liked. The food was always good quality and reasonably priced. I recommend the supermarket on the Okrug Gornji main beach strip.
We all complained that we didn't have enough time and we longed for an extra week in the flat. We would love to visit again.
