Lovely old character house, in Gran Sasso national park with panoramic views

HIGH-VIEWS is an old Abruzzo house with lots of character. It has been completely refurbished and fitted with all modern conveniences. The house has three levels with a large roof garden on the top. The views are spectacular in all directions of both blue sea and high mountains. The house is set in the pretty little village of Vestea (only 200 inhabitants) on the road to Villa Cilliera in the Gran Sasso national park. The village at (800 meters altitude) is small but friendly with a baker, butchers and two café’s and many local restaurants within five minutes. The local area is famous for its hiking, walking and trekking. There are many natural, archaeological and historical sights close by and of course the beauty of the Gran Sasso national park. The lovely beaches of the Adriatic are also only 30 minutes away.

ABRUZZO has the largest natural parks in Italy. With over 100,000 well protected acres the parks cover two thirds of the total area of Abruzzo, no other region in Europe can say the same. It is the most delightful region of Central Italy with many ancient and historical sights to enjoy, Roman of course but with Viking, Norman and Spanish cultural influences. These, combined with the region’s outstanding natural beauty, has created a completely unique heritage. There are many pretty towns with narrow streets and the scenery is unlike any other region in Italy with the Apennine Mountain’s highest peaks so close to the sea. The house is set between the Gran Sasso and Maiella which rise to over 10,000ft and can be covered with snow for many months. There are miles of beautiful sandy beaches and a private umbrella at Montesilvano is available on request. Both Pescara and Montesilvano boast excellent facilities for shopperholics!

Local activities swimming, tennis, walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf, mountain biking, mountaineering, roller blading

Abruzzo, History and nature,

The most delightful region of central Italy The symbol of the Abruzzo is the 'GUERRIERO DI CAPESTRANO', who is in fact a type of ancient guerrilla fighter found in this area pre Roman times. Many different cultures have traversed this region since then. The Romans of course but also the Vikings, Normans and Spanish. These cultural influences combined with the regions out standing natural beauty have left a completely unique heritage and natural environment to be enjoyed by all. The scenery is unlike any other in Italy with the Apennine Mountains highest peaks so close to the sea. The two mountains ( Gran Sasso and Maiella) many months covered with snow ,both reach over ten thousand feet and over look the warm waters of the Adriatic. The Abruzzo has the largest natural parks in Italy (over 100,000 acres) and the most well protected. The parks cover two thirds of the total surface of Abruzzo no other region in Europe can say the same.

Abruzzo,castles and wild animals.

The other fine jewel of the Abruzzo is the miles and miles of lovely golden sandy beaches, (133 kilometers). The towns and villages of the area are full of history with many legendary forts and castles. They seem to top most of the hills and mountains and a lot are very old, with wonderful differing styles of architecture. In the protected national parks there are many rare and endangered species of plants and animals to name some of the animals: Marsiano brown bears, Lynx, Apennine wolves, Chamois deer and Golden eagles. There are also in amongst the mountains waterfalls and lakes, lovely beach woods and even a glacier the 'Calderone' the most southerly in Europe. One of the other most famous sites is the Mt Sirente meteorite crater one of the most beautiful in the world as it is between two lakes. It would be easy to go on and list a wonderful selection of things to do and see, much better to come and see for yourself.

Other Activities Most activities are available within thirty min's drive including many historical sights. The house is also only a couple of hours from Rome.

Skiing Information:

There are 17 ski resorts in Abruzzo and the slopes are said to be central Italy’s finest. The rich and diverse range of ski resorts are ideal for keen sportsmen, beginners and families. Snowboarding, snow rafting, tobogganing and dog-sledding can also be enjoyed here. Casa Bianca is around 1 hours drive from 4 different ski slopes, with more slopes slightly further away. In the Gran Sasso national park, Campo Imperatore is famous for the abundance of snow that provides breathtaking slopes, even in late spring. A cable car ride here is enjoyable even for non-skiers, to appreciate the magnificent views. Castel del Monte is paradise for cross-country skiers.

Golf Information:

Miglianico Golf is the nearest to the house less than half an hour. The golf course is set just below the Beautiful mountain of Majella . It was designed by Ronald Kirby one of the most famous american golf architects, par 72 and 6184 meters . It is 5 Km from the beach of Francavilla al Mare. The mild climate and the proximity to the sea makes it possible for anyone to play throughout the whole year. How to get to Miglianico Golf: It is near the airport of Abruzzo and the A14 and A25 highways and is therefore strategically placed where the main tourist destinations are. Autostrada A14; exit Pescara Sud-Francavilla al Mare. It can be easily reached from Pescara, Chieti and the sea coast.

Great time in Italy!

Kosta, London
Review Submitted: July 24, 2008, Date of stay: June, 2008

“It does what it says on the tin!” That’s how I would describe the property. The web site contains true description and true photos of the property like it is. There is no exaggeration in the description about the state of the property or its character, or indeed the views from the roof terrace! When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by what we saw. The house was very tidy and well prepared for our stay. Everything was in the place where it should be with information on the area, places to visit and restaurant cards. We also found a detailed note from the landlord explaining how things worked and what, in his opinion, was the best place to eat locally.

The Landlord, Jerry, deserves a separate paragraph as by my experience he has been the most friendliest, honest and open property owners I have met so far. All the promises and agreements were kept as it was agreed prior to our arrival. He was very helpful in showing the place around next day after our arrival and explaining how things worked. He also gave us valuable advices about the local area and travelling in Italy, going sightseeing in Rome, etc. If you would like to know more about living in the area and possibly buying a property, my advice – ask Jerry and he will be happy to shear his experience!

Back to the house. It is well arranged and would be suitable for a party from 2 to 6 people. It has excellent kitchen, if you do not mind to cook on holiday, as well as great roof terrace where you can have BBQ, what we did each time we were spending evening in. The house is located in a small village and you would need a car to explore the area and go to the seaside, but everything is relatively close and in summer you would be desperate to get in a cool car with air conditioning, so it should not be considered as a disadvantage.

Honestly, we had a good time and if any of my friends asks for an advice where to stay in Italy, I would definitely recommend this property in Abruzzo!

Owner's response:

Thank you glad you enjoyed yourselves and yes if you come and stay in July and August and want to go sight seeing then you for sure need an air conditioned car !
