The villages :
Montauroux is one of five perched medieval villages just west of the famous perfume village Grasse and north west from Cannes.
These villages were founded year 1000 by the known Grimaldi family who ruled the area. There is a very typical Southern French charm. You will find the town square with the old men playing boules. You can enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of the local rose and watch. There are several small local restaurants and a weekly market.
You can shop in the village there are several bakers, butchers a small supermarket and you can even by your English newspaper at the local tabac.
The other villages are nearby and worth a visit. They all have their own charm and offer more restaurants and cafes and markets.
Activities :
In the area we have great opportunities for mountain hiking and biking. We have Europe's largest gliding air field. There are several places you can do horseback riding. All the villages have public tennis courts. The lake Lac St. Cassian offers rentals of paddle boats, canoes, rowing and fishing.
There are several possibilities for horse riding.
Golf:
This is a ideal are for golfing. You can reach many golf courses within one hours drive. The nearest golf courses are the two new courses at the Terre Blance only 10 minutes drive from the house. These golf courses are worth a visit. From the course you have fantastic views toward the villages and in the background the mountains. The domain de Terre Blance includes a Four Season Resort Hotel and you might even want to visit their magnificent restaurant Le Faventia which was rewarded a Michelen star last year. Another half hours drive you can reach the golf courses of St. Endreol in Le Muy, Grasse, Royal Mougins, The old course in Mandileu. This is really heaven for golfers!
Golf:
In the winter and even up until Easter we can ski at Alpine resorts like Isola, which is only a 2 hour drive from Montauroux. If you are happy with smaller slopes you can find them directly north of Montauroux only 1-hour drive north.
