Feed the kookaburras or enjoy the sunsets from the deck of this recently renovated (mid-2007) and spacious duplex just five to ten minutes from the city, South Bank and University of Queensland. With more than 22 squares over two levels it features 3 bedrooms, en suite, a new kitchen, main bathroom and laundry & its own private garden. The master bedroom with ensuite and walk-in robe is located on the first level while the other bedrooms complete with built-in robes, second bathroom and separate laundry are on the ground floor. Cathedral ceilings, a mix of modern and antique furniture, new carpets, a slate entry area and a solid timber staircase give the home its unique and distinctive character. Painted with cool, light colours the walls are hung with paintings and prints and there are many personal touches. The open plan living area and kitchen flow onto a covered deck with lovely views of Mt Cootha, the University of Queensland and river glimpses. DLUG with remote access.

Brisbane is the third largest city in Australia, and is the capital of the state of Queensland. With predominantly hot summers and mild winters the Brisbane climate promotes outdoor activities and a casual, subtropical lifestyle. Brisbane itself is a hilly city divided in two by its meandering river. The CBD and botanic gardens are on the north bank and directly across the river and easily accessible by foot, car or boat is South Bank, an exciting cultural and leisure precinct. This area, encompassing part of the site of Expo '88 and retaining some of its feature attractions, stretches for several kilometres along the banks of the river and contains museums, restaurants, markets, theatres, historic pubs and galleries in a parkland setting. There is also a beach surrounding one of its swimming pools. Having embraced its river lifestyle in recent years, this is now one of the best and easiest ways to explore all the attractions that Brisbane has to offer.

Additional information about rental rates

  • * No fixed changeover days. 25% deposit payable within 5 days of booking. 100% of rental fee and a refundable security deposit of AUD$250 is payable 2 weeks before rental period starts. The security deposit less any loss or breakage costs will be refunded within two weeks of the end of the rental period.
    Cancellation policy: A full refund of deposit will be given, providing at least 42 days notice is given prior to the intended start of the rental period. If you cancel less than 6 weeks prior to your arrival we will only refund the nights that we will be able to re-let your apartment. Rest assured that we will do our utmost to re-sell the accommodation. Please note that all cancellations must be received in writing/ email. We advise all our guests to take out travel insurance.
  • Special rates for longer stays. Shorter stays under one week will be considered if filling in 'gaps' in our calendar; four nights - $220 per night; five or six nights - $195 per night. Pricing is based on a total of six persons sharing.
  • The tariff includes gas, electricity, bed linen and towels, local call phone, internet, Foxtel, as well as a 'welcome' starter pack to help you settle in on arrival. You can gain access to the duplex after 2.00 pm on the first day of your stay. If you plan to arrive earlier, please let us know and if the property is ready, you will be able to move in at an earlier time.
    On the day of departure, please leave before 10am. This can sometimes be extended by arrangement.
    Also, please note that, while we will accept 6 people, we will not accept more than 4 adults.

Notes: The open plan living area and the master bedroom are both equipped with reverse cycle air-conditioning. All three bedrooms have ceiling fans. The back garden:- The back yard is large, safely enclosed and private with its prolific macadamia tree, ginger, bamboo, lots of green and possums, bush turkeys and other wildlife. Wake to the sound of lorikeets, kookaburras and storm birds. The garden is equipped with a barbecue and tables and chairs for dining. Pets may be considered based on individual request. The yard is fully fenced. There is also an electric bbq on the covered verandas off the living area and kitchen. With its open internal staircase, the property is not suitable for babies and toddlers. The property is child-friendly but not child-proof. There is a built-in baby gate at the top of the stairs.

The suburb of Annerley, Brisbane: Annerley is on the south side of Brisbane and is only a suburb away from Southbank parklands, the Performing Arts Centre, and the famous 'Gabba' cricket ground. The city centre is less than four kilometres away and easily accessible by bus or train. The home itself is 1.5 km walk to the Eleanor Schonell Bridge across to the University of Queensland. From here one can catch the city 'cat' hydrofoil - one of the best ways to explore the city. There is also close and easy access to the South East Freeway taking you to either the Gold or Sunshine Coasts, and to the western highway going to Ipswich, Toowoomba and the Darling Downs. While Annerley Junction offers a variety of shopping ranging from value grocery outlets and fruit barns to exclusive homeware stores it is also surrounded by excellent shopping centres in the neighbouring suburbs. It is also close to many schools, TAFE's, universities (Griffith, QUT and UQ) as well as to three of our major hospitals.

Location and inspections prior to booking: There are 2 good supermarkets within a 5 minute walk of the property. Easy access to University of Queensland, South Bank, museums and shopping... Excellent base for exploring the city sights, family reunions, weddings, etc. If you have friends living in Brisbane, we can easily arrange inspections in between guests on your behalf and would welcome the chance to show them the property.

Golf and Tennis information: The Brisbane Golf Club, an 18 hole championship course, is a little over three kilometers away in the suburb of Yerongpilly. This course is across the road from the new tennis centre at Tennyson which now hosts the Brisbane International Tournament each January. Other public tennis facilities include the University tennis courts a short walk away across the Eleanor Schonell Bridge. Both tennis centers mentioned above are ideally located next to the river in parkland settings.

I have no hesitation in recommending this property. It is a real ‘home from home’, and was exceptionally comfortable, clean and well equipped. It is exactly as described on the Holiday Rentals website. The views from dining terrace are terrific by day and night.

The booking and payment arrangements were very efficient. The owners were really helpful throughout this process and when we were actually in Brisbane.

The property is a good base for getting around Brisbane and beyond. South Bank can be reached by car in a few minutes, with Annerley Road more or less leading directly to the area. From South Bank, it is just a few minutes more to the City centre.

The property also offers other transport options. It is a short (10 to 15 minute) walk from two railway stations, giving direct access to Park Road, South Bank, Central and Fortitude Valley stations. The University of Queensland, with its City Cat pier and services to the City centre, is also reachable on foot. This takes about 25 minutes but includes an interesting walk across a new pedestrian bridge across the river. I mention these options as public transport in Brisbane is safe, efficient and good value, whereas parking in South Bank and the centre can sometimes be both a hassle and expensive.

Annerley has several fast food outlets and a few budget restaurants (pasta, Thai, Indian), which can be reached in minutes from the property. However, with dozens more eating options in nearby South Bank and Park Road, eating out local to the property is probably something to be done only if speed and convenience are the prime considerations. In this regard, there is pub in Annerley Road (‘The Muddy Farmer’) which, while again not really up to the standard of what can be found in the centre, is perfectly adequate for a cold beer and reasonable quality pub grub.

There is a good quality Coles supermarket and a small shopping centre a few minutes by car from the property at Fairfield. There are also a few shops on Ipswich Road within walking distance, including a Woolworths food store (but this has a smaller range than Coles).

We had a great time in Brisbane, which in no small measure was due to the comfort and location of Annerley Mews.
