The cottage is at the edge of Goleen, one of the prettiest and most unspoilt villages on the Mizen. The Peninsula is a rocky spine of craggy. hills which stretches its finger into the Atlantic Ocean, guarded by the famous Fastnet Rock lighthouse. Goleen is the gateway to some of the finest sandy beaches in Ireland and Barley Cove is a five minute drive away. The pretty waterside hamlet of Crookhaven is also just down the road, a
popular landfall for Transatlantic and European sailors there is always
some kind of marine action in the harbour. Between the cliffs and
rocky mountains of the Mizen there lie swathes of lush hedgerows which
celebrate each season with masses of wild flowers. The fuchsia is the emblem of the area. Fashionable Schull is nearby where boats can be
rented and horses hired. Easy access to Bantry and Skibbereen golf courses, the ancient oak woods in Glengariff, and much, much more make it an ideal base for an Irish holiday.
