'Elders' is two houses, a cottage and a barn conversion, and they are both well appointed and furnished. The cottage is a romantic stone property with a large Charentaise fireplace, exposed walls and 2 bedrooms with a balcony accessed from both. The barn has 3 bedrooms, a double height living room with galleried kitchen and both a bathroom and a shower room. One of the bedrooms and the shower room are on ground floor and easily accessible to elderly or disabled guests. The properties are available separately or together. Each property has an area of garden and there is a large gravelled courtyard area for dining alfresco. Terrebourg is a tiny hamlet, but there are larger villages with shops close by whilst the wonderful city of Angouleme with its medieval pedestrianised streets and many restaurants is 20 minutes drive away. The city also provides excellent shopping, a TGV rail link 2 hours 15 minutes from Paris and an airport with Ryan Air flights direct from Stansted..

Nearest Airport: Angouleme at 20 Kilometres
Nearest Ferry: Ouistreham at 468 Kilometres
Nearest Train: Angouleme at 28 Kilometres

Terrebourg is a small hamlet about 4 miles from the N10 and about 15 miles from Angouleme. Whilst the hamlet just has a post box and a boule pitch there are shops 2 miles away in the village of St Angeau including a bakers, chemist, petrol station and grocer as well as a bar/tabac. The larger town of Mansle is 10 minutes away with a far greater selection of shops including super markets, post office and bank as well as several restaurants and bars. Angouleme is a delightful & historic city with extensive shopping facilities, narrow medieval streets full of bars and restaurants and several main attractions including a fine romanesque cathedral and a famous museum of comic strips. The Charente is very rural with gentle hills, forests, fields of sunflowers, corn or vines and excellent opportunities for walking or cycling. There are many rivers offering all manner of water borne activities and the atmosphere of the region is very friendly and relaxed so you can just kick-back and enjoy!

French rural idyll

We stayed in the Cottage at the end of June in what turned out to be a heatwave. The lovely cool interior was very welcome, as was the availability of Wimbledon on TV when it was too hot to venture out! The property is beautiful inside & out, & very well equipped - in some instances better than at home (eg great coffee machine). 2 lovely big bedrooms, nice pieces of furniture throughout, a lovely garden to sit in - all in all, a very comfortable home-from-home. Linda & John - a local English couple who look after the property - couldn't have been more welcoming (including getting in an extensive "welcome pack" of basics such as wine & bread!) & helpful when it came to local recommendations. The property is in a tiny hamlet with no local amenities, but we expected that & found the peace & quiet very restful. We would definitely recommend this property to friends - it'd be great to be in a larger party & take over both the Cottage and the Barn. The only slight criticism is of the French - local towns don't seem to offer much by way of the "haute cuisine" on which they so pride themselves - you probably need to venture into Angouleme for this, but it's worth a visit anyway. We will be back to explore more. Liz & Mick

Our host happened to be sharing the same week and adjoining property this August. David ensured every detail was catered for and was available for information, further requests and introductions if required. Having previously used this property over many years prior to his ownership we could appreciate the quality of detail he and his partner have given in the short period of ownnership.
David regularly attended my enquiries via email with immediate effect. The property lived up to its current as marketed description and more so, unfortunately even David could not fix the weather as this was beyond his control!
My family and I intend to return and look forward to contacting David again soon where I feel we have found a friend.
