Our apartment is one of only 20 in the re-development of a period hotel built around 1890, called “La Soldanelle”. It is situated on a hillside 400m from the centre of the charming and unspoilt village of Chateau d’Oex, an attractive winter/summer resort in the beautiful region of the Bernese Oberland. Facilities include an indoor heated swimming pool opening out onto a sunny patio/garden area, jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish bath, fitness centre, games room with pool table, computer room and laundry room. There is a lift to all floors and a concierge service. Chateau D’Oex has a selection of local shops as well as a well-stocked supermarket. There is also a good range of restaurants and bars. The village is on the famous 'Golden Pass' line which makes it easily accessible from Geneva Airport. Apart from winter sports (it is in the Gstaad SuperSki area) there is fantastic scope for walking in the mountains, & other sports such as rafting, canyoning and mountain biking.

Chateau d'Oex is situated at 1000m in a magnificent valley in the Pays d'Enhaut dominated by high mountains. It is easily accessible by train or car. Geneva Airport is 2 hrs 15 mins by train & the station is 10 mins walk to the apartment, & by rental car about 2 hrs via the A1 & A12 motorways (exit at Bulle). The village is served by the famous scenic 'Golden Pass Line' between Montreux & Interlaken, enabling one to explore many interesting places along the valley including medieval Gruyere & fashionable Gstaad. There is a good selection of shops in the village, including a supermarket and a range of restaurants, banks etc. For winter sports Chateau d'Oex has its own slopes & is part of the Gstaad SuperSki area, one of the biggest in Europe. In summer there is a range of activities including walking on the vast network of mountain paths, rafting, cycling, swimming & riding. The village is a world centre for hot air ballooning & each January hosts the famous balloon festival.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Weekly rental charge includes cleaning, laundry (towels and bedlinen), local tourist tax & key holder fee. Additionally, a breakage deposit of £75 payable by cheque with balance and this is fully refundable (assuming no breakages!). We ask for 10% deposit on booking and the balance payable 6 weeks before arrival.
    We will consider short-stay bookings of 3 nights or more except in February, July and August, but please contact us if your requirements are different from the above table.
    For bookings where the sofa bed is used there is an extra charge of £25 to cover additional laundry costs.
    We can arrange for the supply of food for breakfast on visitors' first morning at CHF15 per person (payable to the keyholder) - especially useful for people arriving in the late afternoon/evening.

Notes: The conversion of the period hotel into 21 apartments was completed in early 2006 to high Swiss standards with much of the original charm and character retained. The development was voted “Best International Redevelopment” and “Best Redevelopment in Switzerland”. We have furnished the apartment with quality furniture & equipment. It has beautiful wooden floors with underfloor heating, & the impressive floor to high-ceiling windows provide fabulous mountain views. The kitchen has black marble worktops, & there is an excellent range of cooking utensils, serving dishes, crockery & glassware. Other facilities include a residents' lounge (with a PC plus printer/fax & wi-fi access), a computer room, laundry, steam room, massage room, ski room & billiard room. The building is secure with a conciege, and has a lift. Rental includes linen, towels, laundry, cleaning, keyholder service & tourist tax. A sofa bed in the lounge area would be suitable for a child of 12 or over

The appartement is very spacious (for 2 persons), very clean and well kept. The person who has received us was very kind and gave us a tour around the building and gave a good explanation of how to use everything. The kitchen has every comfort you need. There is satelite tv, normal tv, and a hifi-system which can play dvd, mp3, MPEG4, AVI movies... The appartement is located in a building with jacuzzi, swimming pool, sauna, fitness equipment, biljard, kicker (football), wireless internet and a very big (shared) terras. So you don't always need to go outdoors but you can enjoy the many things/sports in the building. There is also an underground parking which you can use. If you are looking for a relaxing time, this is definately the place to be.

Relaxing in the Alps

We had an absolutely fabulous holiday, due in no short measure to the very relaxing stay at La Soldanelle. The apartment was perfect - comfortable, well- equipped and furnished, and of course in such a lovely Alpine location. The facilities were amazing and we regularly had the pool and gym to ourselves. Maya made us feel at home straight away and was very helpful and friendly. The regular journey over to Montreux on the Golden Pass Railway was incredible, with panoramic views of the stunning countryside - not exactly your average commute!

Stunning apartment.

Our whole expeience of Chateau d'Oex was enhanced by this marvellous apartment. A friendly greeting by the lovely keyholder started our week. Stunning views from all windows. We loved to hear the cow bells ringing in the hills and birds singing. The swimming pool and Gym were immaculate and it was clear that maintanence is a high priority. The apartment was very clean and comfort was of excellent standard. We did not want to leave and hope to return in the future.

Peace and comfort

My wife and I stayed at this property around Christmas and new year's. We had a fantastic stay. The flat itself is very well appointed, spacious and comfortable. Everything we needed was provided. The building is of a very high standard, providing access to laundry, internet, pool, gym, etc. Chateau D'Oex is a fairly quiet village, but has a large grocery store, a few restaurants, and is very close to other villages in the region for skiing (Rougemont, Gstaad, etc.).

The skiing in the area is diverse - there are several separate areas each with a few lifts (each mountain certainly large enough to keep you entertained for a day or two), and a larger area at Saanen-Moser (about 20 minutes drive) with more extensive selection of pistes.

Finally, the owners of the property are an absolute pleasure to deal with. Communication was easy throughout, and when they became aware that the pool/jacuzzi might not be available they contacted us and offered a discount on our stay - a much appreciated gesture.

I would definitely recommend the property to anyone looking for a quiet stay in a building with lots of amenities and a range of ski/hiking options available nearby.
