GOLF Paradise SURFING Gem:
GOLF:
East Lothian is a golfers paradise. Several renowned Links courses are within 15 minutes drive - Dunbar and Muirfield - both championship standard. Archerfield and Craigielaw are recent high quality developments. North Berwick, Musselburgh and Gullane are well renowned courses. Whitekirk is quality inland course.
SURFING:
Recently the area has become a focus for this sport in the South East of Scotland. there are several agencies providing tuition and equipment hire. The clean waters and beaches are one of the reasons this sport is being so successful in the area.
The immediate area is often referred to as 'Sunny Dunny' due to the DUNBAR area repeatedly being one of the sunniest localities in Scotland as per Met Office records.

MUSEUM:
The SCOTTISH MUSEUM OF FLIGHT, is only a 10 minute drive. Many attractions including CONCORDE are on display. It's worth visiting East Fortune Sunday Market if you do go to the Museum of Flight - it's next door, and is the one of the largest markets in the Lothians - almost everything is on sale here!!
4X4 DRIVING:
More adventure can be had at the local 4X4 Driving School - which is one of the top traing schools in the UK. Quad bikes and 4x4 Driving Instruction is available, as are various corporate/family type days out.
DIVING:
Sub Aqua Diving - St Abbs, about 15 mins drive, is one of the most popular venues for this activity sport and many attractions for divers to explore.
Walking + General Interests:
The cottage is only a short drive from the Eastern end of the Southern Upland Way which crosses Scotland from St Abbs head through the Border counties to the west coast.
The Lammermuirs border East Lothian, and provide the source for the countys water supply. They are expansive and very wild with wide open spaces and remote areas of heather and conifer. This area is completely different from the fertile coastal plains.
Barnyards Cottage, is located in the village of SPOTT. The local Glen - Spott Glen is only 2 minutes walk from the cottage. This glen has Kestrels, Herons, Buzzards and Woodpecker, together with Pheasant, Owl and Partridge.
Animals present include, Deer, Badger and Fox. Have a walk and enjoy the scenery and wildlife.
Additionally, Woodhall Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve is only 1 mile away and is an area of interest and scenic beauty.
Other interesting visits in the locality include, Scottish Museum of Flight - which has CONCORDE and many other attractions.
Golf:
This is an ideal base from which to test yourself on some of the UK's greatest courses. Muirfield which frequently hosts the British Open Championship is only 15minutes by car. Dunbar - an Open Championship qualifying course, which also holds the Seniors and Scottish Boys Championship is less than 5 minutes away.
There are many famous Links courses that await you - Gullane, North Berwick and Musselburgh are all easily reached. Many new high quality golf developments have recently taken place - some are Craigielaw, Archerfield and Whitekirk.
Separately, Dunbar Winterfield - a links course, is a very popular, and represents good value for money.
East Lothian is an area that is simply a Golfing Paradise! No course in the county is more than a 20 minute drive!
St Andrews - and the world famous OLD COURSE is about 90 minutes drive.
To fully enjoy the area and the local wildlife bring walking shoes and binoculars.
