Date of Stay: November 2008
During mid-November 2008, we experienced one of our most memorable holidays in the hamlet of Peralta. This idyllic setting offered seclusion and tranquility along with spectacular views. Nestled in the mountains, it was a perfect setting for hiking on a variety of hiking trails with detailed directions provided by the friendly, but not intrusive staff at Peralta. There are a variety of unique accommodations in Peralta depending on the size of your group. Each is unique, rustic, well furnished, clean, and includes well equipped kitchens. We stayed in the recently renovated Casa Giovanni, a private house, overlooking Tuscan hills and the sea. Sunsets were truly stunning. We were able to combine days of touring beautiful towns such as Camaiore, Lucca and Pisa with hikes in the mountains, one of which took us to a lovely restaurant for lunch. Peralta was developed by a sculptress, Fiore de Henriquez, and while she has since died, her many exquisite sculptures adorn the apartments and especially her studio. Lemon trees, olive groves, and purple bougainvillea flourish. While the apartments are self-catering, delicious meals prepared by Laura can be ordered. The drive up to Peralta is not for the faint of heart – the narrow steep roads and hairpin turns are unnerving to say the least, but once at Peralta, you feel like you truly have arrived in paradise. Peralta offers a romantic, intimate getaway for those who are adventurous and appreciative of extraordinary art. We look forward to returning to Peralta.
Owner's Response: It is always a pleasure to read a review such as this and know that our efforts to make our guests comfortable and enjoy their stay were not in vain! We know how helpful it is to have good information available about what to do, where to eat, places to visit and we have an information sheet providing this in all our accommodation. Also we appreciate knowing that guests have enjoyed viewing Fiore's wonderful sculpture - such an important part of Peralta. Thank you to our friends from Canada who wrote this review! I would add that, although some of our accommodation is rustic (always comfortable!), this does not apply to Casa Giovanni which is quite modern in design and has marble bathrooms, airconditioning, central heating.
