You have so many choices! I know. Seven years ago, I was you - the person in charge of our family's Cape Coral, Florida vacation. We had such a great time on that first visit that my husband and I returned and bought Villa Foster. When I first walked into this property I was drawn to the huge glass doors opening onto the gorgeous canal and pool deck. Ah! The vaulted ceilings and wide open feel of the main living area felt so right. I fell in love. We immediately brought our children back for a week-long visit. We swam and went out to dinner by boat. We took the boat to the beach and the park. We slept in and relaxed by the pool. My husband installed rod holders by the dock so the boys could keep an eye on their fishing poles while they swam. Things I love about this Cape Coral rental

- the quiet neighbourhood. Villa Foster is in an established neighbourhood of professionals and retirees. The wide, quiet canal adds to the serenity of the surroundings. - local, attentive management keeps everything running smooth. The property is stocked with basics like paper towels and soap as well as shampoo and laundry soap. - kid friendly. We have also accumulated lots of toys, books and games at the property over the years. My boys love to play inside and out at Villa Foster. - pool safety. Villa Foster has a portable safety gate that is installed around the pool when children are our guests. While there is no substitute for parental vigilance, when you do not want your children in the pool, the gate is a solid deterrent. - the big window that looks out from the kitchen onto the pool and canal. As the mother of three active boys, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. This window makes it easy to keep an eye on my independent swimmers and enjoy the beauty of the canal.

- Boat rides on the property's Hurricane Fun Deck 201. This is the best way to experience Cape Coral! We keep a chart of all the restaurants on the water for our guests to use during their visit. After your check out with the licensed Coast Guard Captain you’ll be able to read the charts and boat up!. - Sunning on the lanai. Pools that face west get the best sun of the day- so ours is great. It is just wonderful to lounge on the deck chairs then cool off with a dip in the pool now and then. The pool is electrically heated during the cooler months but always refreshing after sitting in the hot sun. - Reading or using the wireless internet at the table on the lanai. You can sit in the shade under the ceiling fan for hours. It is so comfortable. - Going to the beaches. No matter which beach you choose – Cape Coral, Ft. Myers or Sanibel – the sand and the water are a wonderful combination. We can never get enough!

Cape Coral, Florida Area Beaches

The boys love it when we go the Cape Coral, Florida Yacht Club beach. It’s a boat ride with the beach and a playground at the end. What more could a kid want? There is snack shop there that serves burgers and such for lunch or dinner. Watch out for the seagulls if you eat on the beach. My mother once had a seagull steal a chicken wing right out of her hand. Boy, was she surprised! If you want the white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, your closest options are Ft. Myer's Beach or Sanibel. We like to go by boat. Remember that you have to anchor off shore and walk/swim in. You will get a ticket if you beach your boat. Sanibel is a great place for shelling and swimming and clear water. Be aware that many beaches there have no restaurants. In addition, you may have to walk some ways to locate a bathroom. Ft. Myer's Beach is an activity beach. You can shop, dine, rent wave runners, go for a parasail ride, etc. Great for families with middle school, high school and college-age children.

Our favorite Cape Coral Area Restaurants

Boating to lunch or dinner is another favorite thing to do. Of course, I make my husband captain the boat (he seems to be happy with that). All I have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. We love the patio at Rum Runners, the Matanza's Inn and Snug Harbor. Villa Foster maintains a special chart that lists all of the restaurants on the water for the use of our guests. Off-water dining we like is Iguana Mia (they have this amazing Taco Bar for six that you can carryout for $20), India Palace, Outback Steakhouse, Bubbas Road House, The Leaping Lizard, Origami. Villa Foster has a book that lists all of our favorites and maps to their location.

Boating destinations from Cape Coral, Florida

Picnic Island is a family favorite. This tiny island is only accessible by boat and can be pretty busy - but our kids don't seem to care. They love the adventure size of it and I love being able to toss out a beach towel and read while they play. I am always fascinated by the itty-bitty perfect sea shells I find here when I sift through the sand. We have done the day trip to Cayo Costa a number of times. During peak season you may have to wait for a place to dock the boat once you get there - but most times we have had no trouble. Once on the island, the park service runs a shuttle (tractor) to the Gulf side. There are picnic tables, fire pits, trash cans and outhouses. You need to bring your food and drinks with you as there are no restaurants or stores.
