L’Octaviere Bleue is a stone built farmhouse, situated in quiet countryside, 3km outside the pretty village of La Chapelle Achard in a small scattered hamlet of about 20 dwellings. The farmhouse is well furnished and decorated, with art work from the owner displayed throughout. It is attached to the French-speaking caretaker’s house and has its own extensive private gardens set in an orchard, with nice, relaxing views across fields and woods. There are many romantic walks near this self-catering summer holiday rental villa. The garden has its own terrace with garden furniture, leading to an area with a large free-standing barbeque, all set in an orchard. There is a boules area in the large side garden. Les Sables d’Olonne, the nearby local seaside town, which is well-known for its beaches, with the Remblai promenade (all sorts of evening entertainments in the high season), and its working harbour, overlooked by a street of over 20 restaurants, most of which offer local fish delicacies.

The nearby village of La Chapelle Achard has a patisserie, bar/tabac, hairdresser and a deer farm. Slightly further away, at 5 miles is La Mothe-Achard, which has two good restaurants, a pizza takeaway, three cafes, three bread shops, two large supermarkets, chemist a weekly market and themed garden .Around the farmhouse are extensive walks, one with a picnic area, boules area and a picturesque bridge/ford. We have seen deer, nightingales, and other wildlife around the area. We are a 20 minutes drive from the sea at Les Sables d’Olonne, or Olonne sur Mer for surfing. At Sables there is a shell museum, Thalassotherapie centre, and a modern art gallery set in an Abbey, zoo, minigolf, karting, yacht and surf schools+ shopping.3 nearby Golf Courses+3 Casinos. Napoleon's Historic town of Roche Sur Yon for horse fans, and of course Puy du Fou THE theme park is ~40mls away. Almont Chateau was once the home of Richard the Lionheart. Great shopping and eating also at St. Gilles-Croix de Vie.

This area of Vendee is particularly photogenic, and if you are house hunting and wanting to look for long term accommodation(especially out of high season), then you are welcome to enquire,by sending an email or text. Notes to the rental rates

  • PLEASE NOTE : prices are in British pounds, but prices in Euros are changeable , please email for OUR price in Euros**.
    To secure your booking, a deposit of 25% of the cost of your holiday is required. The balance is to be paid 8 weeks before the start date of the holiday.
    A security deposit(separate cheque) of £150 which is RETURNABLE at the end of your stay, subject to deduction for contribution to repair of any damage, or the requirement for extra cleaning by the caretaker preparing for the following visitors.
    This security deposit is required at the same time as the balance, in case of damage to the property or contents.
    If payment is not received by the due date, the reservation will be canceled. Every effort will be made to re-let the property, but your 25% deposit will be retained if this is not possible. Reservations made within 8 weeks of the start of the rental period require full payment at the time of booking
  • We ask you to be a considerate tenant and to take good care of the property and to leave it in a clean, tidy and undamaged condition at the end of your holiday. Although a final light clean by our caretaker is included in our prices, we will retain all or part of the security deposit to cover additional cleaning costs if the house is left in an unacceptable condition or breakages need replacing.
    We strongly recommend that you have a comprehensive insurance policy (with cancellation cover) +full cover for your personal belongings, public liability etc, (NOT covered by our insurance).
    You can arrange for the final cleaning to be done by the caretaker for a one off payment of £30 at the time of booking – there by making it a completely relaxing holiday.
    For short or longer rental periods please contact us for individual prices and we will do our best to accommodate you.

  • BATHROOM 1 is tiled and has a corner bath with mixer tap, which also supplies the flexible hose of the overhead hand shower. There is a raised platform step alongside the bath. There is a basin with mixer tap, mirror, and tooth brush holder. It has ample shelving, hooks and towel rail. BATHROOM 2 has a toilet and a hand basin with a tooth brush holder. BATHROOM 3 is an all singing (radio) shower enclosure (with a foot washer, seat, all over body spray and funky lights), is in the utility room with wooden floor and a full length mirror, dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, central heating boiler and full sized hot water tank, providing ample hot water day and night. Central heating is free from May to September, although you probably won't need it as the farmhouse is stone,+ double glazed throughout. An extra supplement of 30 Euros (£20) is payable to the caretaker on arrival / or payable to the owners from October to April for the Oil fired central heating.

  • Each bedroom is tastefully decorated with curtains, roman blinds, and window shutters. Each is very well equipped with a mirror, hooks, wardrobe, a chest of drawers, open storage shelving, bedside tables with lamps, 2 chairs and 3 bedside rugs on the oak floors. BEDROOM 1 has a 160 cm wooden firm bed (queen sized bed) with a handmade wooden wall-mounted headboard unit. BEDROOM 2 + 3 have 2 full sized single wooden firm beds in each room. Bedrooms 1 and 2 are south facing, overlook the rear garden and surrounding fields, bedroom 3 has the largest area with an extra clothes stand and is at the front of the house. A child's cot and high chair is available on request. All linen (English pillows, sheets and duvets [and extra blankets if needed) and towels (hand and bath) are provided free, although you will need towels for beach use. The Lounge has 2 double sofa beds which will sleep a further 4 PEOPLE, so the farmhouse can sleep 10 PEOPLE+ 1 CHILD (if very friendly).

This is a no smoking Farmhouse on ONE LEVEL with wooden ceilings. The kitchen, lounge, hall and toilet floor are tiled. Kitchen has a tiled wood burning stove (wood supplied); is amply equipped, with storage in pine cupboards/shelving. Oven has a ceramic hob and a grill in the rotisserie oven. Lounge has 3 rugs, 2 double sofa beds, rocking chairs, footstools, coffee and side tables. Entertainment - lots of games/chess/jigsaws/cards BOOK library. A French TV, DVD+Eng DVD Library. The HIFI has tape,CD+MP3 player/radio. Totalling 2000m2, a quiet, safe farmhouse in large enclosed grounds, surrounded by fields, loads of safe walks, bike rides(2 BIKES)+on the local pays-des-chards tourist route. In the side garden is a boules court (boules supplied). At rear the garden has a terrace, with 6chairs, a bench and 2 sun loungers, 2 large tables and large sun umbrella; leading to a built in BBQ, all set in an orchard. NEW POOL+ABRI - SEE OWNER SITE-27DEG=APRIL. POOL OPEN TIL MID OCTOBER.

Our Holiday

As a family of 5, our children 15 and twins of 11 we enjoyed our holiday and the pool was a great bonus. The property is well equipt, well maintained and was very clean. The gargen is large with a large brick BBQ with extra table. A car is essential, we also took the children's bikes as there are adult bikes at the property, the roads around the property and into the village are quiet and there are cycle routes. Some nice beaches with rock pools 30mins away, but there are beaches closer. Sables de L'Onnes busy seaside town.
A quiet location in the middle of the countryside and very dark at night!
I would recomend the propery and would consider going back again if we were to visit this part of France again.
Our children were happy with the pool, beaches and sight seeing as well as evenings out but we are family who likes to get away from it all when we are on holiday.
