Our nearest village, Fayence, is built around a typical Provencal market square which three times a week buzzes with stalls selling wonderful fresh fruit, vegetables and local produce as well as colourful pottery and fabrics. Naturally it is also well served with bakeries, small local shops and restaurants...our 'local' restaurant, within walking distance, has a Michelin star and there are two other starred restaurants a short drive away, but there are plenty of other family run establishments serving the best of Provencal cuisine at prices to suit every pocket. Fayence has a thriving gliding club which offers trial flights for those who have never experience the magic of gliding as well as a fabulous gliding environment for experienced pilots. And golfers must not miss the Domaine de Terre Blanche with its two eighteen hole championship courses at nearby Tourettes. It's also paradise for walkers, whatever their age or fitness with plenty of gentle strolls and uphill challenges!

Perfect for relaxation

Review Submitted: August 24, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We very rarely return to the same holiday destination, but did just that with La Tauperie this year after such a good experience the previous summer. We had 5 teenagers in tow, yet it was still a relaxing week, enjoying days by the pool and easy dining in the covered patio. The villa more than matched our expectations. It is scrupulously clean and well set up for holiday guests. The light and space, together with the stunning views, help make this a special property. The owners have thought hard about what helps make people feel comfortable in a rental property, such as a well equipped kitchen and plenty of books to read - it really feels like a home - and lots of detailed information on local activities and restaurants is provided. We liked the market at Fayence and visited several vineyards, plus some spectacular neighbouring hilltop villages. There is plenty of good walking. Above all, however, this is a place to relax and unwind. Don't expect any nightlife or other entertainment within walking distance: the villa is several miles from the nearest town, although it doesn't feel remote. We succumbed to spending a day in Cannes (about 40 minutes away) with our accompanying teenagers, but interestingly they did not crave more excitement than this and were very content to stay put, especially given the impressive stock of DVDs and games for evening amusement. We would highly recommend this villa for a family holiday, especially with older children, who can have a sense of independence in the separate bedroom wing.
Owner's Response: Yes, we quite agree and if you are looking for heaving nightlife and loud discos, this is not the place for you. But if you crave a complete change of pace, a beautiful location and lots to help you unwind and relax...here it is!

Wonderful Holidays

Review Submitted: September 15, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2008
We have had some wonderful holidays at La Tauperie, our now grown up children first came as teenagers - they are still coming its that sort of a place!
This year we went in May, the weather was hot but not too hot. walking into Fayence through the olive trees carpeted with wild flowers and over the old Roman bridge was simply delightful. Buying provisions for lunch in the market and home to the terrace with panoramic views takes a lot of beating. then of course there is the extensive La Tauperie library to enjoy whilst swaying in the hammock. Perhaps a dip in the pool before deciding where to eat in the evening , its hard to choose there a lots of deligtfful villages in the area with some great restaurants. La Tauperie is a wonderful house in an attractive rural location. The owners are very friendly and helpful.

A French Shangri-la

La Tauperie

We have been coming to the south of France for over 10 years now and this is by far the nicest villa we have stayed in. There is plenty of space for one thing (we are a family of five) and the large L shaped living room is a real bonus, opening out on to a long terrace and separate dining patio with spectacular views across the valley. There is even a view when you wake up in the morning as each bedroom has double doors opening out onto the terrace. If you’re after a truly relaxing holiday, this location is hard to beat!

And if you need to venture out there are two very good restaurants locally and many more within the next two villages.
Shops and markets are also within minutes of the villa for those local delicacies.

The owner's representation of the villa is very accurate as is the services provided, we have already recommended the villa to business associates and friends.

Home from home for regular visitors:

Ongeese Bucks, UK
Review Submitted: September 2, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
This is the most welcoming holiday home you could imagine. Lynette and John have cleverly provide really useful, detailed information on restaurants, local places of interest, routes for walks as well as an amazing supply of books, music and DVDs for their holiday guests. We love La Tauperie so much, we have spent at least one week there each year for the last five years with friends and family.

Its position between the lovely hilltop villages of Fayence and Seillans made it easy for us to find all types of restaurants and specialist shops. We visited the Farmers’ Market to stock up on locally grown produce before hitting the remarkably well stocked supermarkets for all our favourite french and goodies. We also visited some of the local vineyards to sample the regional plonk, some of which we just had to purchase in order to conduct a more exhaustive tasting.

The house is spotlessly clean, cool, airy and very comfortably furnished with fabulous views from all bedrooms and sitting room. We loved sitting on the patio with a glass of wine gazing at the wonderful view watching the occasional glider cruising into the airfield in the valley below. It was completely relaxing and quiet. When we felt the need for a cool down or a little more activity, the pool area was perfect - set in a pretty garden terrace with the requisite sun loungers and umbrellas.

The kitchen is really well equipped with an excellent supply of pots, pans and serving platters and there is plenty of cutlery and crockery to cater for larger dinner parties. Lynette has also provided cookery books as well as some of her own favourite recipes using local produce.

The closest beach, Frejus, is only about 45 minutes drive and we spent a wonderful day driving along the coast to St Tropez but were thrilled to return to La Tauperie, the perfect holiday retreat.

We highly recommend La Tauperie as an ideal place to chill out and relax for adults and families.

Review Submitted: August 23, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
The whole experience was excellent, John and Lynette offered a friendly but professional and well organised service. They kept in regular contact with us and sent us a complete information pack. The house itself was large, cool and airy. It was clean, well equipped and user friendly. The villa is about a 10 minute drive from Fayence where there are plenty of eating places and a good local supermarket. Plenty of villages to explore close by and the beach at Frejus was about a 45 minute drive. The pool was fabulous - although a little cool at times - and the children thoroughly enjoyed it. It is however quite deep at the shallow end and my four year old was out of her depth at all points. Not a problem for us as she is a fab swimmer but it might be a factor for other families. A great holiday all round. There was no evidence of cots high chairs etc, however we didn't request them so they might be tucked away somewhere!
Owner's Response: I'm afraid we don't offer cots or high chairs at present, but if enough people request them we will be happy to reconsider this. The pool is certainly not a paddling pool but there are built in steps down into the shallow end where little ones can sit while they get wet. Very surprised it was cold though, John normally complains it's too hot and has even suggested firing ice cubes into it from the terrace above!
