Photos and Description of this Bouteilles St Sebastien holiday farmhouse A self catering farmhouse and gite with commanding views over a rich landscape

La Croix offers a comfortable base to explore one of the most beautiful parts of the Dordogne. The garden is filled with Evening primrose, Hollyhocks and Buddleia which attract many butterflies, notably Swallowtail. The spacious balconies allow ample room to eat al fresco with a commanding view as the sun sets over rolling countryside. Aubeterre, one of 'Les beaux villages de France' is only 15 minutes drive away. It has great historical interest and has its own beach on the river Dronne. There are many good restaurants within easy reach and Riberac market on a Friday morning is essential!!! The accomodation is in two very separate areas, suitable for families and friends, but also can be entirely independant. The farmhouse can accommodate 4 comfortably and the small gite is ideal for 2, with the option of a third on a 'put you up' if required. La Croix is excellent for relaxing 'away from it all' with beautiful countryside. An artists paradise.

Details for The Gite 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2, 1 Bathroom

The small gite, although part of the main farmhouse, is entirely separate with a kitchen off to a small sitting room with comfy sofa, table, chairs and TV. You walk through the kitchen to a large double bedroom and then out onto a spacious balcony with ample room to lay a table to eat al fresco or enjoy a glass of wine whilst enjoying the view. As you go through to the bedroom there is a power shower room to your left and a wc and wash basin to your right. The area in front of the gite is south facing with a cottagey garden of scented shrubs and plants and plenty of lawned area for sunbeds and recliners. It is accessed from the road via a small wicket gate along a winding path through Evening primrose.

Perigueux, 45 minutes drive is the capital of the Dordogne. The medieval part of the town comes alive on Wednesdays and Sturdays when local artisans display their first-class produce, including cured meats, truffles, foie - gras and pies or 'pates de Perigueux'. La Cite, once a pivotal Gallo - Roman site of Versunna, is also worth a foray. If you walk up the hill from La Cite you'll come to the Cathedrale St. Front which proved to be a trial run for the architect Abadie who later went on to design the Sacre - Couer in Paris. Angouleme, a cathedral city, used to be dominated by paper mills but now has a thriving tourist industry. The old town occupies a high steep sided plateau overlooking a bend in the Charente. It has many charms. Brantome, the Venice of the Perigord, is surrounded by a loop in the River Dronne. The towns pride is its Benedictine Abbey. Brantome is a must see as is St. Emillion, although a one and a half drive to the south is well worth the experience.

Peaceful retreat

John & Sheila Guildford, Surrey, England
Review Submitted: August 22, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We stayed here for 11 relaxing and very enjoyable days. The very friendly and approachable owner (Sara) was on site for the entire stay so if problems were to arise she was on hand to sort them out. The gite was charming with excellent views from the balcony at the rear of the property. It was extremely quiet and the view of the stars was exceptional. The friendly lizard on the kitchen windowsill made washing up a pleasure. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to come !
Owner's Response: I thank John and Sheila for their kind comments.I live in a small detached gite in the garden at 'La Croix' and am usually around but take care not to intrude on my guests holiday, but am there to help out if needs be.

A Perfect Rural Haven

Mrs G. Adelaide - South Australia.
Review Submitted: June 21, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2008
**** The Perfect Rural Haven - Truly Magic! ****

I was fortunate enough to find this peace of heaven in 2008 while looking for a peaceful getaway for an extended stay - returning again in 2009. I stayed in the romantic, rustic Cottage for 2 whole months & also enjoyed a week-end in the larger and equally well appointed Farmhouse, which is ideal for families.

Nestled on the crest of a hill in one of the most beautiful parts of the Dordogne, "La Croix", surrounded by stunning scenery is where dreams really do come true. Its within close proximity to several lovely villages and many tourist sites and is the perfect starting
point to discovering what South West France has to offer.

There are also many wonderful walks and scenic drives to enjoy, but do return in time to savour the spectacular sunsets each evening from the privacy of your own deck! It really is heaven!

Sara (now a friend) is a wonderful hostess who delights in sharing her charming world with her guests and I have no hesitation in
recommending La Croix.
