The village of Competa:
Competa is situated 49 kilometres from Malaga and 18 kilometres from the coast at Torrox Costa, at an altitude of 636 metres. It lies within the area of Axarquia in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara, on the scenic Route of Sun and Wine, and has a population of 2,500. The area is irrigated by numerous springs and streams from the surrounding mountains. The nearby Casa de la Mira Nature Reserve is spectacularly beautiful. The main product here is the grape; the wines of Competa being excellent and renowned throughout Spain. In general the locals prefer the sweet variety whilst visitors prefer the dry. There is an interesting wine museum in the village that sells different types of local produce and handicrafts, as well as doubling as a bar and restaurant. Competa is a pretty village which has retained its original Moorish layout and has lots of interesting nooks and crannies, with a good balance of shops, bars and restaurants.
Beaches & Amenities:
Further south there is a beautiful stretch of coastline with cliffs and small sandy bays. Located just twenty minutes drive is the delightful beach side town of Torre Del Mar with over four kilometres of sandy beaches lined with restaurants and bars.
Nerja to the east, a 30 minute drive, boasts 16 kilometers of beaches with powdery sand and sparkling clear water. All major water sports are available here, including water skiing, scuba diving and sailing.
AQUA VELIS
Torre de Mar ( 20 minutes by car)
One of the largest, splashiest water-parks in the province with 21 different rides to choose from including some super-fast slides, dingy river ride and paddling pool for young children (and parents!).
Horse riding: is available at Los Caballos Mosquin.
Walking: There is a wealth of walking opportunities at all levels. The national park and the Sierras Almijara and Tejeda rise directly behind the villa.
Travel:
To the north of Competa the wonderful city of Granada can be reached in less than two hours.
Sevilla is just under three hours drive to the east.
Malaga old town is one hours drive. From Malaga airport a regular bus service runs to the Central Bus station in Malaga. From here a bus service runs to Competa with the following departure times:
On weekdays at 11.30 am, 13.15pm and 18.30pm
On Saturdays and public holidays at 13.15pm and 18.30pm
On Sundays at 10.30am and 21.00pm
A one way ticket Malaga-Competa costs around 5 euros per person and takes approximately 2 hours.

Golf:
The nearest Golf Course to Competa is the newly opened Baviera Golf situated at Caleta de Velez. Designed by twice World Championship winner and four time Ryder Cup member, JosŽ Maria Ca–izares, Baviera features wide undulating fairways and large, fast greens with various slopes. The course is of moderate difficulty and features several water hazards.

A lovely 18 whole course set in beautiful landscaped links and is open to non-members. It will take just 20 minutes to drive to Baviera. Clubs, buggies and other equipment can be hired at very reasonable prices (

Along the cost at Rincon de la Victoria is the 18 whole Anoreta Golf Course. Again, set in beautiful surroundings. This is a more mature Course as it has been up and running for some 10 years now. It will take approximately 30 minutes to drive to Anoreta from Competa
With wide fairways and good greens, there are some difficult holes making this a challenging golf course for all levels of golfers. There are many holes with water, and a long 528 metres third hole.
