Photos and Description of this Syracuse holiday cottage Situated right on the promenade at Marzamemi, a picturesque village with beaches

The cottage is situated right on the promenade of Marzamemi, which is an ancient fishing village in the extreme south-east of Sicily. From the big roof terrace, there is an splendid view of the village, its small port and the vividly painted boats. The tradition of all things marine is still very much alive in Marzamemi today. Visitors can enjoy the natural beaches and the vibrancy of an authentic coastal village. The village boasts many restaurants, pizzerias and shops selling delicious local produce. The uniquely located house has a very charming courtyard with an olive tree at the centre. Stairs of stone lead to the roof terrace with its set of deckchairs, covered terrace, barbecue and kitchen sink. The house has three entrances that explains its unique position: from the square of the village, from a side street and from the promenade. The house consists of two kitchens, three bedrooms and three en-suite bathrooms, a living room with two sofabeds and a dining area.

San Lorenzo, which lies 2 km to the north of Marzamemi, marks the beginning of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Sicilian coast. Here the shore is characterised by golden sand beaches, turquoise seas and white limestone rocks. San Lorenzo borders on the coastal reserve of ‘Vendicari’. Here you’ll find a breathtaking variety of Mediterranean flora and fauna, exotic beaches and Byzantine ruins. It is also a veritable oasis of rest and tranquillity for an array of bird species. Heading south towards the south-eastern tip of Sicily, you find a fishing village called Portopalo. Taking the road from Marzamemi to Portopalo, but turning off before a castle on the sea, one can turn left and visit the old ‘Tonnara’, one of the most scenic and extraordinary sights to be seen in the area. Noto, a magnificent little city famous for its stunning Baroque architecture, lies 20 km away. You can’t miss the traditional afternoon stroll down its main street.

Notes: Please note that the house is very close to the main square of Marzamemi, where the Sicilians in the weekend (and in summer every day) enjoy their evening walk and some bars put the music loud until late. The houses’ location in the centre of the village makes it ideal for a stay at any time of the year. In winter either the fireplace or gas heater can be used to heat the house.

About Marzamemi: The fisherman’s cottage has been renovated with an eye to conserving the heritage of the local area. The house is situated right on the promenade of Marzamemi, which is an ancient fishing village in the extreme south-east of Sicily. From the terrace, there is an incredible view of the village, its small port and the vividly painted boats. The tradition of all things marine is still very much alive in Marzamemi today. Only recently has it become a popular destination for Italians who enjoy the combination of the area’s natural beaches and the vibrancy of an authentic coastal village. The village boasts many restaurants, pizzerias and shops selling delicious local produce such as locally caught and processed tuna and swordfish or the famous cherry tomatoes from nearby Pachino.

The area / going around: San Lorenzo, which lies 2 kilometres to the north of Marzamemi, marks the beginning of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Sicilian coast. Here the shore is characterised by golden sand beaches, turquoise seas and white limestone rocks. San Lorenzo borders on the natural reserve of ‘Vendicari’. Very nice cottage

goalie1 Germany - Hamburg
Review Submitted: October 26, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We have been voor two weeks to Marzamemi and stayed one week in this fantastic cottage. It was very clean and the descrition was accurate regarding the location. The customer service in Holland was very friendly and correct. We can recommend this organisation and this cottage.
Please imagine that the place Marzamemi is very small - you will need a car to get to other places and to the beach. The place Marzamemi isn't very clean, but the placa and the center of Marzamemi (where the cottage is layed) are very nice and clean.
We hope to get the chance to stay in this cottage again in the near future.
