40th Birthday in Barcelona

The apartment was spot on. The photos made it look smaller than it is. There were only 2 of us using the apartment & we didn't require anything more. The bed was built to fit all the suitcases under it, much easier than falling over them all the time. We didn't eat in the apartment at all but all the facilities you need are there. The apartment was clean & came with cleaning products so that you didn't have to go and buy them. The location is "in with the locals" in an area of regeneration. Kids play on the streets & you feel safe walking about at midnight. Less than 5 mins walk to the nearest metro - San Antoni. Using the metro couldn't be easier - we went to Sangrada Familia, Casa Batllo, Guell Park, Miro's Museum (on the Olympic Hill/Mound, the funicular is included in your single journey from San Antoni Metro) & the Magic Fountain (we got some truly Scottish rain that night). Cameron was great he met us at the apartment gave us the rundown on the apartment, some safety tips & answered a multitude of questions from me. He recommended the T-10 ticket from the metro & to be honest it was the best advice we got. We were there for 5 days & each got a T-10 (7.20 euros each). This covered all of our trips except that we got a taxi back from the paella restaurant - only 6 euros. The apartment is 5 minutes walking distance to Las Ramblas & the Gothic Quarter. The shops around the apartment cover all your holiday needs without the tourist prices - Supermarkets, Bakery, Butchers, Chemist, Off-license & Tobacconist. Then there's places to eat - David's on the same street is a firm favorite with the locals, so go early - their English isn't great but it didn't get in the way of ordering. There's a Pizza, Pasta & salad restaurant on "Cera" the other street that the apartment sits on the corner of, that's worth eating in - friendly and again a hit with the locals. We also went to Siempreviva Restaurante near Barceloneta Metro on the marina, you want - Menu del dias (sorry for the spelling) it's only 15 euros each but that's starter, main course and 1/2 bottle of wine each. We were also being offered a sweet in the price but we were just too full. The Menu is usually on a chalkboard at the entrance and you have to ask for it specifically and then get your waiter to translate every item. You can choose from 6/7 starters and 8/9 main courses. I would happily recommend this apartment to a friend remembering it's not meant to be 5 star but good value for money.

Owner's Response: The three restaurants I recommend in the same street are:
Méson David (hearty, noisey, cheap and very Spanish)
Las Fernandez (salads and mediterranean cuisine)
Lempika (tapas and cocktails)
