My Summer of 2009
Review Submitted: October 11, 2009
Date of Stay: July 2009
I arrived at the villa after using the excellent travel directions supplied by the owner. We were met and given a quick tour of the villa and then left to our own devices.Upon closer inspection the villa was not clean and several photographs were taken .We had to set about cleaning. something we all wanted to get away from. The patio area was covered in old food and the table was scrubbed and the patio swept and mopped. The cutlery drawer was dirty, bedrooms had not been swept, runners on wardrobes thick in dust, food behind the fridge, bare light bulbs hanging and in general very poor maintainance.Outside there was a huge pile of empty boxes vegetation and rubbish.
Obviously we complained and cleaners came in (better we thought) Unfortunately our dissapointment did not stop. The toilet had parassitic worms leaking from the outlet pipe so we complained yet again it was dealt with fairly quickly but we had to clean the worms away ourselves! The villas saving grace was the pool which was well maintained, clean and of a good size. However our holiday was spoiled as we all suffered flea bites (We bought sprays) we were pagued by ants(we bought sprays)We had rats in the rubbish which was eventually cleared by two men and it took three days !We caught 4 wolf spiders in the pool (3 times the size of a pound coin) and the worst thing was 4 of us got worms! The up side was the weather was fantastic ,the pool was good and the nearest beach 96miles away) was fabulous. Overall I thought the villa suffered from poor maintainance ,ammateur DIY repairs and a lack of cleanliness There were lots of areas around the villa that were just neglected . Sorry Darius but you need to hear this if you want to rent out to the British public.
Owner's Response: I am shocked, and very much saddened, to have read this review. I find it particularly puzzling, having recently received your email thanking me for a ‘great holiday’ and asking if the property would be available for another 3-4 weeks next year! In any case, I very much regret that aspects of your stay were not to your satisfaction, and sincerely hope that my efforts in promptly dealing with your myriad issues have not gone unnoticed for next time.
Over four busy years I have received consistently good feedback from guests to the villa, and it is no surprise to me that the majority of guests these days are in fact return visitors. I have not been asking guests to review the property online, but I think I might start :-)
Unlike many people advertising on this site, I am not running a corporate enterprise; for several months of the year, this villa is my home. The profits made from renting the property over the summer are ploughed back into renewing and improving all of the facilities, and it is very much in my interests to ensure that it is well-furnished and maintained throughout.
It is unfortunate that the man who installed £2000 of brand new garden furniture I had specially ordered from the UK prior to your arrival had left the boxes in the property, and that the professional outfit tending to the garden’s rich vegetation had left cuttings in the garden after pruning the trees, but I have spoken with the relevant parties to ensure this does not happen again.
On other issues, I feel it is verging on slanderous to suggest that the property is infested with rodents and that the pool is a breeding ground for insects and disease. I have never experienced any of this personally, although Comunidad Valenciana, due to its arid climate, can certainly attract some diverse, yet harmless, wildlife! I can only assume that your suggestion the beach is 96 miles away is a typo :-)
When all is said and done, I thank you for your feedback. Albeit critical, it will no doubt help me ensure that the property – of which we are so proud – lives up to the expectations of future visitors.
