Lyn & Graham welcome you to La Rose des Vents****, 2 luxury cottages set in the 2 1/2 acre grounds of their Charentaise Manor House. Tastefully restored with wooden beams, terracotta floors & blue shutters, the spacious detached cottages are beautifully furnished and equipped including flat screen satellite TV & DVD, and WI FI internet connection. There are en suite shower rooms and luxury bathrooms,and kitchens equipped for the keenest cooks. Comfy beds are made up for your arrival with Egyptian cotton sheets and fluffy white towels & pool towels are supplied. Relax by the 11 x 5 metre swimming pool (sole use of guests) set within the fruit orchard, overlooking the vineyards, or in your own private flower filled gardens with sunny terraces equipped for BBQs and outdoor dining. Ideally located for Cognac (15mins);market town of Matha (5mins), Saintes (30 mins), Angouleme (40mins) Atlantic beaches (45mins). La Rochelle, Il de Re, Bordeaux & the Dordogne all within easy reach.

Awarded 4 stars by the French Tourist Office in 2008, this spacious cottage, formerly the stables, has been tastefully renovated to preserve the original character but is equipped with every luxury to offer 21st century comfort. There is an en suite shower room to the ground floor double bedroom, and a family bathroom with corner bath and twin washbasins. The large sitting room has two sets of French windows giving access to the private walled garden on one side and the patio, shaded by a wisteria, overlooking the lily pond on the other. It is tastefully furnished with comfy leather sofas, rugs, occasional tables and lamps, desk, well stocked bookcases, mini HiFi system, flat screen satellite TV with DVD player and WiFi connection. An open plan staircase leads to the second double bedroom on the large mezzanine floor & the twin bedroom. The large farmhouse kitchen diner is fully equipped and seats 6 at the pine table and also has French windows opening onto the walled garden.

Guests are invited to enjoy the apples, pears, plums, figs, cherries and herbs that grow with in the gardens and orchard. A charentaise welcome pack of local produce is provided. If you enjoy cycling, you can reserve bicycles for all the family in advance from a local company, who will deliver them to the cottage, ready for your holiday. (please ask the resident owners for more details ) Keen tennis players should bring their raquets, as there are tennis courts available (free of charge) in the commune at Mons. A cool box and picnic rug is provided Badminton and Boules are available on site. There is a vast library of CDs and a range of indoor games. Children are welcome. A cot, high chair and stair gate are available for babies but the design of the open plan staircase is not suitable for active toddlers

La Rose des Vents is ideally located to explore the ancient streets of Cognac, where you can have a guided tour of the great Cognac Houses or enjoy a river trip on a 'Gabare' (historic flat bottomed boat). Roman Saintes with its famous amphitheatre is just half an hour away, as is Pons, a medieval town where you can climb the 12th century keep. 40 mins will take you to the walled town of Angouleme and Bordeaux and St Emilion are within easy reach. Visit the Old Port of La Rochelle where you can linger in a quayside restaurant or wander the ancient arcaded shopping streets. Royan is one of France's leading seaside resorts, with safe golden beaches, and from here you can drive along the Cote Sauvage, where you will find the Zoo de La Palmyre. Don't forget to take the toll bridge to the Il de Re and wander through this unspoilt island with whitewashed houses, gardens full of hollyhocks and bustling harbours lined with cafes and restaurants.

This is delightful driving country and the resident owners have owned classic cars for over 25 years, and have put together a range of scenic tours which will take you off the beaten track though vineyards and picturesque villages to the Dordogne, Charente, Charente Maritime and the Bordeaux regions. If you would like to experience a drive through the vineyards in an open top sports car, the owners offer a complimentary ride in one of their 4 seater Morgan sports cars, during your stay. .. and if you are a keen classic car enthusiaste it is possible to hire one from a range of classic cars during your stay. Lovely setting for family holiday

We have now visited Rose cottage three times and it is an absolute family favourite. Every attention to detail is given by the owners who are very helpful with lots of suggestions for places to visit and local restaurants. The cottage is beautifully presented and equipped. Our three young children love the little garden surrounding the cottage and especially the lovely pool area which is very spacious and well provided with sun loungers and sun umbrellas. We hope to return very soon to this pretty part of France.

We visited La, Tacherie and stayed with two friends at Rose cottage in September 2009. Our visit was especially planned to take in the Circuit des Remparts in Angouleme and to take part in the parade of Morgan Sports Cars. We crossed from Portsmouth to Cherboug and chose to have an overnight stay en route. This proved to be a waste of time and so if one is prepared to drive for 5 hours just 'go for it' and have an extra day there. We fell in love with Rose Cottage on sight; it was well beyond our expectations. Decorated with great flair and with every concievable device one could need or think of - and then some! I have never seen such attention to detail in any rental property in my life. Not a chip or a scratch in any of the crockery or on any piece of furniture. The bedlinen was the finest 400 thread cotton and the beds most comfortable. Towels were fluffy and properly white with pool towels in rich colours. The kitchen was superbly equipped with tasteful tableware and the bathrooms fresh and delightful. We had the bedroom on the mezzanine which was huge, light and airy with a welcome ceiling fan. Remember that if you have this room, the loo and bathroom is downstairs and access to the 3rd bedroom is through this room. We especially loved sleeping on the mezzanine because it is so spacious and very glamourous.
In the sitting room there was everything in the way of entertainment, DVDs, CDs, TV etc and wireless internet connection. We found the information book very useful with ideas for days out, with/without children, nearest beaches etc. We had our own Morgans we enjoyed the scenic runs in the area which are outstandingly beautiful. Shopping was close by in Cognac, restaurants are plentiful and don't forget to visit the local chateaux and try the wines.
The gardens are amazing both immediatly outside the cottage and in the grounds. The pool is immaculate; sparkling water that you can really stretch out in for a good swim. The pool surround and loungers are pristine and the fruit in the orchard is yours for the picking. The pool area is behind a locked gate; totally safe for keeping toddlers at bay.
After a weekend motor racing we hardly moved from the cottage as it was so comfortable and we spent afternoons lazing by the pool eating figs.
The Peeks have put together a beautiful haven in the sun and I would so recommend you visit and enjoy. Our only complaint was that our time was all too short; but we plan to return next year.

A fantastic family holiday

We stayed in Rose Cottage for two weeks in August. The weather was fantastic and we were able to enjoy the lovely pool and the pretty patio garden. The cottage was very comfortable, well equipped and clean. It was ideal for our children who are 15 and 10, although when booking the cottage do note that one bedroom is a "walk through" which might not suit everyone. Lyn and Graham, the owners, were friendly, welcoming and helpful and made us feel very comfortable. A highlight was the trip round the vineyards in the Morgans, this was a big hit with our 10 year old son. There are many places to visit in the area but the property is also perfect for simply "chilling". This has been one of the best places we have ever stayed and we would definitely go back.

Two of our party drove down while one flew so after all meeting up it was lovely to pull up to the luxury cottages. We were met by the owners who were great hosts providing information as required but leaving us to ourselves to have plenty of r&r. We all enjoyed our week which was certainly helped with the home from home feeling with lovely furnishings & equipment, especially lazing round the pool and all the bbqs we had. It was a restful week for us so not a huge amount of travelling around but we did visit La Rochelle & Cognac both we would higly recommend. We did indulge in a trip in the morgan which was great but I am still a Jaguar lady! We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone.

Beautiful cottage in beautiful part of France

We are a family of five who had a really lovely week staying at the Rose Cottage. The cottage is really well set up, and deserves its four star rating. There were lots of little extras, thoughtfully provided by Lyn and Graham such as ideas and directions to attractions near and far; plenty to choose from for all particular likes and ages, and different weathers. There is even a BBQ provided for homesick Aussies!
We visited in spring, would love to stay again, perhaps in summer. Very highly recommended.
