A wonderful holiday home

Susie S Bungay, Suffolk
Review Submitted: October 1, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We stayed at Rose Cottage in August 2008. It was exactly as stated in the details and we were hugely impressed by the decor, cleanliness and facilities. The cottage is absolutely beautiful. Our two girls loved the pool and the fact that they could watch the British TV programmes they enjoy! We bought fresh croissants each morning and ate them in the beautiful secluded patio area. The supermarket in Martha is convenient and only 10 minutes away. The area is lovely to explore and Lynn and Graham are excellent and attentive hosts. We followed their recommendation to visit a brandy house in Cognac and also discovered a fantastic park there. It's only an hour to the coast and we also enjoyed our visit to Saintes ( good shopping !) We can truly recommend this gite as the perfect holiday resort and look forward to visiting again. You would need a car although there are interesting walks around the area. A week wasn't really long enough !
Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. We like to think that both our cottages are of high quality but must point out that this lovely family actually stayed in Manor Cottage not Rose Cottage, and we look forward to welcoming them all back in the future.

Lovely place to stay in Cognac

Morgan enthusiast Milton Keynes
Review Submitted: October 1, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
Beautiful cottage, very clean and superbly well equipped. Ideal for classic car owners who are unable to carry very much luggage.Lyn and Graham are very friendly, helpful and willing to give advice and tips on great places to visit and guidance on excellent restaurants. The duck menu at Chateau Mesnac should not be missed!
This was our second visit and once again we had a great time.
The pool area is lovely, ideal for a relaxing afternoon.
We would thoroughly recommend staying in the cottage to anyone wishing to explore the Cognac region.Ideal for cognac tasting too at several of the cognac houses in the area.
We will certainly be staying again in the future.

A lovely week at Manor Cottage

R&V Berkshire
Review Submitted: October 1, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
The cottage is sympathetically restored to a very high standard. We loved the interior living spaces and the bedrooms were the best we have experienced on holiday. The property was well equiped and clean. The children (12&9) loved the outdoor space and swimming pool.

The overall property, including the grounds, had a lovely peaceful feel and the owners, Lyn and Graham, managed to be friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. The sharing of the grounds and pool with the owners and the family in the other cottage worked very well. It was fun mixing with everyone, but the other cottage is just far enough away, the other side of the grounds.

The property is ideally situated for visiting Cognac, Royan, Sainte and Angouleme. Maritime Charente is a very beautiful part of France and perfect for family holidays.

We would recommend this holiday to anyone.

Manor Cottage La Tacherie

Davies family England
Review Submitted: July 11, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
Description and layout matched exactly the website and the rooms were just as clean and nice as the pictures indicated (not always the case! with rental properties). The cottage was spotlessly clean and clearly very well maintained. It was helpful to have the owners on site to ask questions and to know that they could help if things went wrong with the cottage (not that they did) and Lyn and Graham are lovely. I'm sure that if something did go wrong they would do everything they could to sort it out. It was extremely well kitted out, esp in the kitchen, a home from home in that regard. Pool was lovely and very clean, plenty of sun loungers for everyone and lots of garden space for the children to play in. We travelled with 2 under 3-s and there was a travel cot and highchair. There is a stairgate provided but it isn't hinged and the staircase at Manor cottage is open - just a warning to people with small toddlers. You do need a car though as there isn't really anything to do within walking distance. The Cognac area is very pretty and in June was relatively quiet but wasn't perhaps so well geared up for visiting families with small children as say a beach resort might be but we did find restaurants with high chairs and were never turned away from anywhere. Back at the cottage it was helpful to have Cbeebies on hand for the odd wet afternoon for the kids!

Classic Car Enthusiast

Moggie Oxford, UK
Review Submitted: June 5, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
Our stay in Manor cottage in April was very enjoyable. The cottage is truly excellent with high quality furnishings and decoration. It is difficult to think of anything missing. There are novels to read, local guides to follow, cd’s for the music system, British TV and radio, it’s a true home from home but in the heart of France.

The swimming pool is large and well maintained and in the season of the year, not April for this visitor, it would be a big attraction.

Lyn and Graham, the owners, made us feel very welcome with lots of information on the region, places to visit, restaurants etc. and visitors with an interest in cars, particularly classic cars, will find much to talk about.

We would definitely recommend La Rose des Vents to anyone who has a love of France and we hope to return very soon.
