Lovely Cottages in National Park Near Madrid
This is a pair of mountain cottages in the historic center of one of the most beautiful villages in the Madrid area, Miraflores de la Sierra. Both have private entrances from the street and secluded gardens. The larger cottage has a spectacular view overlooking the Madrid plain. Great location for visits to Madrid while experiencing Spanish country life. Miraflores is a favorite destination for Madrileños escaping Madrid’s summer heat. The cottage is situated in the most elegant part of town, known for its magnificent villas, just a five minute walk to the pedestrian-only center and many excellent restaurants. Excellent horseback riding, hiking, mountain climbing and road biking in area. Madrid is 50 km away. Toledo, Salamanca, Segovia and Avila all within easy driving distance.

This is a lovely cottage with a sunny living room, with high ceilings and a fireplace. It has a country-style kitchen, a bedroom with a large double bed, and a toilet with shower and washing machine. The kitchen retains its original farm style although everything is new - the countertop, sink, stove and fridge. The garden is large, and wonderfully scented by lilacs, jasmine, roses and honeysuckle. There is a brick barbecue by an old stone wall.

The cottages are located a few minutes walk from the forests of the Guadarrama Mountain National Park, a unique mountain range of central Spain with oak forests and alpine meadows. Great for countryside walks and mountain air. But also a perfect location for visits to Madrid. Close to 14th century El Paular Benedictine Monastery and the Royal Palace of San Ildefonso, a former summer retreat for Spanish kings. Toledo, Segovia, Avila are all about an hour drive. Cross country skiing and sledding just 10 minutes away. Ski resorts about 30 minutes drive. Frequent bus connections to Madrid. A five minute walk in the other direction takes you to the centre of the village, with outdoor cafes, and any kind of shop you will need during your stay - grocery stores, pharmacies, bakeries, butcher, fishmonger, etc. Many open Sundays.

Staying here, you definitely get a feel for Spain and its culture. It's in a gorgeous little village that Spaniards love, but doesn't appear in most English language guidebooks! It's near historic monasteries, palaces and churches in places like San Lorenzo de el Escorial, Segovia, Avila and Toledo - not to mention Madrid itself. It's also a little bit cooler here than in Madrid and the rest of Spain and especially the beaches, which are a few hours drive away.
