2 wk stay. Early July 2008

Don't expect a new property. Charming location, very comfortable (rural) feeling; lounge and grounds in particular are very "crash out". Quiet location, well away from roads. Kitchen large, well equiped with appliances - large "american" fridge/freezer, large stainless cooker range, new dishwasher. Well stocked with all utensils, crockery, cutlery etc. This is an old country property with all associated charm. As such it does have downsides. Master bedroom is above the 2nd double bedroom and every movement above is heard below - so be warned!. All clean on arrival. Pool is recent and ok - 2/3rds of length very deep.
Good rapport from the owner's rep. Restaurant in village is great to spend an evening - 10 min walk - surroundings good, food reasonable. Very good Auberge, food A1 - 15min drive - details in property.
Well stocked supermart - short drive - less than 10 mins.
Village shop quite well stocked - pricy but open every day and usual daily bread run. Very well located for sightseeing - the triangle made up by Domme, Castlenaude and Les Eysies - very easy driving. Rocamadour some distance. Sarlat 30min drive. Canoe hire 5 to 10 min drive.
Back to the property. Really good feel on arrival, which stayed with me throughout the 2 weeks. You have to accept it for what it is. Its old (disused bread oven in "courtyard") floors uneven, lots of period furniture, loads of books and magazines - old Christies' catalogues, art books, travelogues. New Samsung LCD TV, freeview reveiver - but limited channels. DVD player ok. Main house (1st floor) has bathroom (bath with integral shower) ground floor 2nd bedroom has shower room, which also houses wash m/c and drier. If needed, new central heating installed. Plenty ot storage room throughout.
Room for 2 cars within courtyard.
Security for downstairs accommodation could be better. Plenty of pool side loungers - we had 5 in use.
Terraced area (main 1st floor area) fully sheltered with large table. Access from kitchen, lounge and main bedroom, so if it rains - eating alfresco no problem. Separate table and chairs - seat 6 comfortably in a sun-trap pebbled area - good size sun umbrella.
3rd bedroom - opposite master bedrom - 3 single beds, - attached wash area. Although 3 beds, I'd personally not bring young children. Great place to run about, but too many opportunities for falls - be warned!
Would I go again - YES!

Owner's Response: Good to read a positive review of the property and as Mike says ...the property has certain drawbacks beingold but is full of charm.
The one drawback not mentioned is that the downstairsbedroom and bathroom/aundry room has to ba approached from outside....on right hand side in photo ...which could be awkward if it rains but all the other qualities make up for it.
As he says, young children need supervision but with a swimming pool this is essential anyway.
Hope that others will come and enjoy it !
