Mas-Cabardes holiday house: Pradelles Cabardes

High nature rank: This is a place away from it all. in French they would say 'au bout du monde'. Nature is overwhelming and very present. For the south of France it is really off the beaten track. Tourism is present but scarcely. If you love to go on long walks along small paths sometimes through forest, sometimes along the green slopes with breathtaking views, sometimes leading to the 'villages perchés' the small authentic villages hung up into the mountains, you have made a good choice picking this bit of France to visit. Historical this region was a very well known Cathar country. Close By you can visit the remains of the Cathar castles of Lastours. Pradelles-Cabardes, once a rich village due to its transport of giant ice cubes to Carcassonne and Narbonne...nowadays is a sleeping village. You can still meet the old ice cellars on your walks, where the people stocked the ice during wintertime.

Shops and restaurants: There is no buzzling night live in this mountain area, only the sounds of nature and the bright stars at night. We serve french food at evenings under the pergola . You can go shopping in the small shop, a very french 'epicerie' in Mas Cabardes, a village at 10 minutes driving, they sell everything, or you can take your car to the big stores in Mazamet (20 minutes drive) at one side of the mountain or to Carcassonne (30 minutes drive) the other side of the mountain. Carcassonne has plenty of shops, a real shopping street, souvenir stores, cafés, restaurants at every corner and... it's very, very, touristic, old medieval city. (unesco's heritage) well worth a visit off course! Mazamet is quieter, several shops and restaurants, has had better days in the earlier century when the working up off the skin of sheep brought lots of prosperity to the city. You can still see the large, beautiful houses dating from that area.

Visit : This Cathar region has plenty of old castles, ruins, abbeys and old cities to visit, a very rich history and one off the most fascinating regions in France. You can Skipp a day and drive to the coast, Narbonne is at about 60 kilometers from Carcassonne, visit Gruissan over there. Or you could go to the 'Côte Vermeille' near the Spanish border, very nice but crowded in summertime with the coast villages of Collioure and Port Vendres. Or simply visit Carcassonne plage, a beach on the lakeside. A beautiful safari park can be found in Seine. And closer by in Carcassonne you'll find the Australian Park. Last but not least don't forget to taste the french wine, plenty of french 'chateaux' wine castles have wine tasting at their property, you should experience it once.
