Nearby attractions

The nearby coastline has miles of white sand and surf ideal for surfers. Other activities include diving, windsurfing, water-skiing, kite-surfing and canoeing, Nazaré Relax at lunch in the fishing town of Nazaré which has a great variety of regional restaurants and cafés. Stop at the Nazaré cliffs with views over the Atlantic Ocean and learn about the miracle that took place here. Ilha Berlenga This is an island 10km offshore. It is only 2.5 square kilometres and a natural reserve, home to thousands of sea birds including gulls, puffins and cormorants. It is accessible by ferry from Peniche. Caldas da Rainha The spa of Caldas da Rainha gradually developed around the Free Hospital which was founded by Queen Leonor in 1485. Today it is an important fruit growing region and a centre for the production of traditional ceramics there are plenty of markets. The daily fruit market sells fruit, vegetables, nuts, cheese and some basket wear and ceramics.

Beach activities

The Lagoon Perola Da Lagoa Beach - Sand-castles, paddling, sun-bathing, watching the fishermen and collecting cockles. Your local beach with a few places to eat, but mainly for those who like the simple beach-life. The Escola de Vela da Lagoa Sailing School, Foz Du Arelho The school can be found on the north shore, at Foz Du Arelho. It offers activities such as: catamarans, toppers, windsurfing, kite-surfing, water-skiing, and canoeing. You can either hire the equipment and set-sail on your own or book lessons with a private coach. There are courses that consist of 5.3 hour days on your favourite activity or multi-activities. This is very popular with juniors as it gives them something to do throughout the week and gives the parents some well-earned time to sunbathe. Rates vary from 8 euros to 30 euros for equipment hire for 1 hour, or 60 euros for a 2 hour private lesson. Weekly courses are around 90 euros for the 15 hours.
