L’Ampolla is the local fishing village and has been a favourite with mainland Europeans for over four decades, attracted by its quiet charm, sandy beaches, mountain backdrops and, of course, sea-food restaurants. It is also on the edge of the River Ebro Delta. You can take a boat trips up the river to where the Ebro meets the Mediterranean and watch cormorants and eagles glide over the waters of the river. Not surprising the delta is a Nature Reserve protected by UNESCO and is the home to a myriad of bird species. Nearby in the Medieval town of Tortosa, a stunning destination for a day trip of shopping and culture.
