Additional information about rental rates

  • Please supply as much information about your party as possible when enquiring (number and age of children etc) so that we can advise as to the suitability of the house for your holiday.
Payment in sterling is made direct to the owners by cheque or internet transfer, or by euros to our Portuguese bank account if preferred.
25% non-refundable deposit on booking. Balance due in full 8 weeks prior to the start date. Start dates flexible - extra nights available on a pro rata basis. Weekends, short breaks and longer lets also available off season. Contact owners for details.
  • Rates given are for couples / families of between 2 and 6 people occupying the whole house and all bookings are for the whole house.

A returnable deposit will be held against breakages and damage at £200.00 per booking. We are happy to accept a cheque which we hold on file without cashing unless needed.

Further details for this holiday house rental in Alentejo Litoral, Portugal

Why Casa do Pombo?: Are you looking for the authentic Portuguese experience? Our lovely house is in the heart of a beautiful old town, but only 5 mins walk from endless unspoilt beaches. This is 'real' Portugal, a favourite seaside town for Portuguese holiday makers, with very friendly local people and lots of inexpensive restaurants and cafes serving typical home cooked Alentejan regional food. The interior of the house is stylish and quiet with very little traffic noise around the house. The streets nearby are quiet, with the River below and the Church behind, and there is usually ample parking. There is a small paper shop at the end of the terrace and the internet bar is nearby. 5-10 minutes walk away are a wide range of butchers, bakers, fishmongers, supermarkets and daily public market. The excellent sandwich shop and cafe in the square offers cakes, sandwiches and soup to take away - perfect for picnics. Our visitor book in the house offers tips and advice on good places to eat out!

What else is special?: At night you can lie in bed and hear the waves breaking on the shore. In the morning you can watch the sun rise from the roof terrace over the distant hills to the east. You can watch cormorants flying up river in the evening to roost, skimming the clear waters of the River Mira. You can look out across the unspoilt forest on the other side of the river, along the cliffs and coastline. You can catch the summer ferry across the river to the cafe on the beach or drive across the road bridge (out of earshot) to park up on the south bank and walk along the cliffs or through the woods. You can watch the most amazing sunsets across the red clay roof tiles and out to sea to the west. Only 10 minutes from the house you can walk to unspoilt cliffs and sand dunes, discover deserted coves and beaches. It is the most romantic place we can imagine - that's why we bought it!

And if you don't like that.....: you won't be surprised that there really isn't a throbbing night life in Milfontes, so it might not be for you! However there are some cool bars in the town (the Buddha Bar for instance), a trendy surf shop, lots of bars with pool tables etc., the surf school is a great way to meet other people and there is an excellent internet cafe open until late in the evening. There is excellent surfing nearby and for more adventurous trips out Lisbon is only 2 hours drive and we're told that a trip to Seville is only a bit further ... if you were staying for 2 weeks it would be worth the effort. Inland Evora and the rest of the Alentejo region offers cultural and historical sights, with day trips and places of interest to visit. Within an hour's drive are the mountains of Monchique, renowned for good hiking and bird watching, and beyond that is the Algarve, with the coastal towns of Lagos and Faro.

Golf: We're not golfers but we hear there are some excellent courses within easy reach. We'll find out more and fill this in later but if you have any queries about this we can email you direct.

Idyllic holiday

Casa Fan Shrewsbury Shropshire England
Review Submitted: August 9, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Beautiful property.Peaceful and private. Furnishings stylish and new, in an old and well renovated house. Bags of space. Very clean and lovely welcome. House ideally situated - yards from excellent restaurants, and a sandy beach. Also very good local cakes, bread - deli within a couple of minutes. Surfing lessons ( there is always surf on a beautiful beach a 5 minute drive away). This is not an English holiday - a place where the Portuguese go. But we found the locals very friendly and welcoming, and helpful. There are fabulous walks, and trips to harbours and other towns - we ran out of time in 2 weeks to complete our 'to do' list. We hired a soft topped jeep and drove inland - the roads just dissapear and you can drive up and down hills and though woodlands on unmade tracks for hours. Can really reccomend this as a get away spot - we had 2 teenagers with us and they found lots to do. The lttle town is safe and they could go off on their own at night - plenty of bars and an internet cafe
The house - has everything you could want - 2 very well equipped kitchens, comfy beds, 3 bathrooms. It is immaculately decorated with lovely local photographs on the walls, and some thoughtful touches - scented candles, a good range of books, guides and dvds. Most of all though it has a view to die for from the balcony - we ate breakfast there every day. We spent 1 day in the Algarve on the way back - what a waste. It was too hot, too busy, and far too British. If you go to Casa you will step back in time - I am sure this is what the Algarve was like before the British found it
We all feel this was the best holiday we have ever had - property and location were perfect.
Owner's Response: So glad to hear that guests are enjoying the house and the area - we know we love it, but its wonderful to know that our guests feel the same way! We agree with your thoughts on the Algarve - its like another country and a world away from lovely Milfontes. We are so grateful that visitors take time to offer their feedback - our guestbook at the house also has some wonderful comments and its an extra bonus when people leave their thoughts on the website. Thankyou!

Summer 2009

Review Submitted: August 12, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This was the first time my family and I had visited Portugal, we like to stay where the locals go on holiday and away from mass tourism. If you are of a similar mind this is an ideal spot. Milfontes has all you will need and a friendly relaxed atmosphere, from where you can acces the interior or the coast.

The place its self is in an ideal location, in a quiet spot but everywhere is in walking distance, shops, beaches restaurants. We had a car but more often than not left it at home.

The accommodation is spotless and has all facilities that you need and in excellent order. Make use of the roof terrace for Breakfast and evenings; it is far larger than the pictures show and there is a barbeque in the corner. Meat, veg and fish from the market cooked on the terrace with a beautiful view.

We were all relaxed. We have 2 teenage boys who enjoyed the space of the house, it is really sutable for anyone.

We wished we had taken them to Milfontes as small children as the location and Casa are ideal.

I am a particular person and do not reccommend places lightly...this was excellent

beautiful but...

Rupo Berlin, Germany
Review Submitted: November 14, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Casa de Pombo is a beautiful building, with two flats, that can be used seperatly or together with a large group. Access to some amazing beaches is easy enough. You can walk 2 minutes to a jetty and take a boat to the other side of the river where there is always a quite spot, even in August. The buzz of Milfontes is nearby but the house in the old centre of the village is a secluded. Nice quality furniture, very tastefull. Good quality beds throughout. Great roof terrace/balcony with views to die for.
However, our experience was stained afterwards when the owner withheld part of our deposit due to tapparently excessive cleaning. Now, I have not had this in 25 yeards of renting holiday homes. We were a large group and stayed for threee weeks, so that obviously some cleaning had to be done. Which is meant to be covered by the rent. Deposit is for breakages and damages only. None of which was claimed by the owner. So unless you don't leave this house as spotless as if you had never ever been there, say goodby to your deposit money. A pity, as otherwise I would recommend Casa de Pombo wholeheartedly.
Owner's Response: In the time we've been renting out Casa do Pombo we have only retained part of a deposit once, and we were sad to have to do it in this exceptional instance.

We ask people to leave the house in a tidy condition, so that our cleaners can turn it around the same day for the incoming renters. Our cleaners will then change the beds and clean through the house. If you have any breakages or other damage (such as stains) then we really appreciate people letting Anna & Ray know before departure, and we will not charge unless essential (previous holidaymakers can testify to this).

If we need to replace, repair or undertake extra cleaning before the next people arrive, then advance notice of this is appreciated. Between holidaymakers we often have only 5 hours for the house to be changed over - its a big house to clean and turn around in that time. Please bear this in mind and help out Anna and Ray who will work very hard to make sure the house is ready for the next holidaymakers arrival.

Please read the terms and conditions on the website or email me if you have any concerns.

Casa de Pombo ; What a treat!!

Marleen and Paul cardiff wales
Review Submitted: October 11, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
A stay in Casa de Pombo is more than a treat. We would like to keep it all for ourselves but that wouldn't be right. The description of the house is spot on! It is very tidy, cosy, it has everything you can wish for. Lovely selection of books, cd's and DVD's if you just want to relax on the terrace with the spectacular views on the estuary and the ocean. At night you can hear the waves from your bedroom. The kitchen is wel equiped but the restaurants are so cheap and the fish so fresh, why cooking yourself if somebody else can do it for you. You just walk out of the house and you've got all the restaurants and bars at your doorstep. We had lovely meals in Milfontes and in Porto Covo and on the way to Sines (Arte e Sal). Janine and Michael made sure that all information is written down in a guestbook in which we wrote all our lovely experiences! Booking the house was so easy. I spoke to Janine (the owner) who is very very friendly, it felt like we knew each other for a long time.
One thing is for sure, we will return to this lovely spot where we had such a great but too short holiday!
