Saone-et-Loire holiday cottage: La Guiche

What a glorious setting for a wonderfully relaxing holiday; La Folie is a delightful house within the perfect Burgundian village of La Guiche. Excellent local store and boulangerie for your daily needs and a lovely restaurant in Marizy, just a couple of miles away, or for the very athletic, a healthy 60 minute stroll each way through beautfiful woodland. The house is very comfortably appointed and beautifully clean with all the facilities you could ask for; a glorious garden to enjoy lazy days with the occasional glass of rich Burgundian red wine with fruit trees laden with the seasonal crops of apples, cherries, plums or walnuts. La Guiche makes a great centre to explore the wine trails to the north - Marcigny and beyond - or to the South - Chenas, Fuisse and many others; all are within a 40 mile radius. Great local markets in St Genoux, Givry and Macon and great areas of historical interest including Cluny and La Clayette. For walkers, or, like us, dog owners, there are fantastic walks on your doorstep with miles of well maintained woodland tracks to explore which will take you to a choice of three breathtaking lakes - in three weeks we only met 6 other people on our daily forays, so it is just like having your own private estate! The countryside is just delightful and we shall remember many an evening on the terrace with a glass of wine in our hand and some local cheeses close by as we watch the days sunshine finally disappear over the hills of Macon. We shall definately return and would happily recommend others to enjoy the experience.
