La Folie is nestled in the hillside village of La Guiche, in Southern Burgundy. It is located in an area rich in medieval history, with many examples of Romanesque architecture and a range of chateaux from the 10th to the 19th centuries. The historic town of Cluny, which once boasted the largest church in Christendom, is 25 kilometres away. The chateau and village of Cormatin iare 15 kilometres away. The market town of Charolles is also 25 kilometres away. Prehistoric caves can be found at Aze and Blanot, 35 minutes away. Along the road north to the magnificent wine centre, Beaune, (90 kilometres away) are fascinating wine villages. South of Cluny is the interesting regional centre, Macon, on the Saone River (50 kilometres) the nearby famous rock face of Solutre and the world renowned wine of the Pouilly Fuisse and Beaujolais regions. Canal boats are available at Digoin (40 kilometres away).
