The views across the water to Korcula, and along the Peljesac peninsula and the little islands around Orebic, were the outstanding attraction of this apartment in Villa Perna. The ground floor apartment is clean and comfortable with basic catering facilities. The terrace was pleasant for sitting and eating outside, but is next to the road which could be busy at times. The ground floor apartment does not have the use of the upper terraces.
There is a jetty just a few yards away across the road with sunbeds. This was sunny all day. There was some shade on the little pebbly beaches on either side of the jetty and further along. The water was beautifully clear and pleasant for swimming, although water shoes are recommended because of the stones, and the spiny sea urchins underfoot.
The 2 nearby restaurants in Perna offer good food at reasonable prices. The walk into Orebic is pretty hard going in the heat of the day in summer, but there is car parking around the harbour area and the other side of town by the main town beach. There are several good restaurants with scenic terraces there, as well as a great ice cream shop and ferries to Korcula.
Local information was not provided in the apartment but we discovered that 2 passenger ferries to Korcula operate morning and evening from close by in Perna/Kuciste, as well as the car and passenger ferries from Orebic itself. Korcula town is fascinating with its little churches, shops and museums, as well as lovely restaurants along the waterfront with views back across to Peljesac.
The many ships, yachts, ferries and liners which visit the island make another feature of the view, along with the windsurfers and water skiers. There is always something to watch!
Dubrovnik is a good 2 hours drive, although only 120 km. Both the road along the peninsula and the main Split/Dubrovnik coast road are scenic, but can be slow going with the many bends and steep hills.
