Photos and Description of this St Sauveur de Cruzieres holiday cottage Character self catering gites & large luxury pool in South France.

Our stone cottages are perfect for couples wanting a quiet holiday with a luxury pool and comfortable facilities. Conveniently situated for Avignon, Nimes, Arles, and Uzes. With the Cevennes and its hills and valleys close by, we are perfectly situated for walkers and cyclists, & there is horse riding in the vicinity. There are colourful markets in Barjac, Les Vans & St Ambroix all within easy reach. Uzes market is particularly colourful and even has its own web site. The Ardeche Gorges are 20 minutes drive away and great for canoeing, kayaking or just sightseeing. A beautiful part of France! Though our cottages are part of one ancient stone building, they are at different levels and aspects and are all different, having the ambience of an ancient stone hamlet. There is a lovely courtyard separating our house from the accommodation and even a small spring running by the buildings. There is a Mediterranean garden and our luxury salt system 13.7 metre pool with its poolside bar.

Saint-Sauveur-de-Cruzieres is a small village with many old stone buildings and a small river flowing through its heart. Across the road from our Mas is the boulangerie and we are a few steps from two bar - restaurants. We overlook the countryside with its vineyards and olive groves and dramatic hills in the near distance. Our climate is Mediterranean and we enjoy plenty of sunshine. Our buildings resemble an old stone hamlet and are centred round its courtyards and a small spring that flows through the property. It would take many visits to see all the local attractions. There are grottos and caves to explore, plenty of castles and medieval villages and towns with their colourful markets to choose from. The area is very popular with walkers & cyclists. The Cevennes are a short drive away. Here, serious hikers can face challenging trails through the rugged and dramatic scenery. The rivers Ardeche, Ceze, and Chassezac all have gorges to visit, swim or canoe through.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in St Sauveur de Cruzieres, France

Pool Area.: The luxury pool is set in a sunny Mediterranean garden of oleander, olive trees and native herbs & flowers. Dimensions are 13.7 metres (about 45 feet) by 5.5 metres and it has Roman Steps descending into the shallow end. There is a gentle gradient from 1.2 metres at the shallow end to a deeper area of about 1.5 metres. The pool has a salt water system which is both kind to the skin and repulsive to wasps & other unwelcome guests. We have installed a heat-pump system which provides warm water in an efficient eco-friendly way. Our sun loungers are hardwood and textyline, a special fabric designed for pool use. Our chairs have a similar fabric, especially for your comfort between dips. Our pool-side bar carries welcome cold beers, chilled rosé from the village cave co-operative, & soft drinks.

Mediterranean Garden.: Our garden is planted with trees, shrubs and flowers native to the environment and climate of Southern France. You will enjoy the scent of lavender, rosemary and other herbs around the garden and the colourful Laurier Rose or Oleander planted near the pool. Jasmine and honeysuckle are everywhere! In the garden we have staged a picnic area with rustic table beneath the cherry trees. For relaxing moments there is a two seater 'Ballancelle'. For those bursts of activity we have created a boulodrome and even installed lighting if you fancy a lazy evening game. There is a hardwood table & chairs placed by the small fish pond, we often enjoy aperitifs there!

Places to Visit in The Area: The Ardeche Gorges are a 20 minute drive away. The road that winds along the top of the Gorge from the famous Vallon Pont D'Arc has many stopping places from which to enjoy the spectacular views. At Vallon there are many hire centres where canoes and two seater kayaks can be paddled along the river through the gorges. A truly magnificent experience. Uzes is a medieval town with many attractions and a maze of alleys and narrow streets to explore. The famous tree lined Place Aux Herbes is host to a colourful and fascinating Provencal market. Avignon and the Palais des Papes is an easy drive away as are the ancient Nimes & Arles with their Roman remains. Visit the Pont du Gard to see the remains of the Roman aquaduct, which is a World Heritage Site, or experience one of the spectacles held there in June. Nearby, the Cevennes is a place of wild beauty, with ancient chapels in stone villages tucked in among the forested hills and valleys. This region is a hikers paradise.

Other Activities: Canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, sightseeing, visiting markets & just relaxing!

A relaxing retreat

Malc & Gill Keynsham, Bristol, UK
Review Submitted: November 16, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
This was our first experience of self-catering in France and will certainly not be our last. Phil and Tina were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The property provided everything that we expected and more, in a very pretty setting, which gave us privacy, but with the opportunity to mingle with other guests. The pool for us was a lovely relaxing way to end our day, not to mention the bar! The surrounding countryside was beautiful and varied and the local town of Barjac offered varied restaurants and shopping. The patisserie just across the road was excellent other than the diet needed afterwards! For us this was the perfect holiday in a beautiful part of France.
Owner's Response: Malc & Gill certainly embraced the spirit of conviviality at Le Mas de La source. Their comments have left us with a sense of satisfaction that their holiday was so enjoyable and memorable.

So good I almost don't want to tell others......

Phil and Rach North-West England
Review Submitted: June 26, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We stayed for one week in June 2009, we had selected the property using holiday rentals and had been attracted by the pictures of the property on the web. The pictures are good but the real thing needs seeing to be believed. Phil and Tina have a fantastic property in a superb location and have thought about the little details to make the gites really a luxury find. The balacony of la confisere is an added benefit but any of the gites would make a luxury base to explore the ardeche. The local town of Barjac is great.. a real french town, while the adjacent wine co-operative and baker across the road makes it diffucult to want to leave your gite!! Thanks to Phil and Tina for making us feel very welcome and being the perfect hosts!!

Tranquility in the Ardeche

Saaaaa London
Review Submitted: July 25, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
On arriving at Le Mas De la Source we were immediately taken by the beautifully maintained grounds. We were welcomed very hospitability by the owner and shown to our gite. Having just got engaged we were over the moon to find such a beautifully maintained, cosy gite to relax in for our three night stay. Attention to detail was excellent with a high standard of linen and towels. The site shared with 3 other gites was utterly beautiful, the pool was stunning and heated making it irresistible. The salt water system meant there was no horrible chlorine to make our eye sting. We enjoyed BBQs on our terrace, lazy days by the pool, evening games of boule under the stars, walks through the local vineyards and the owners went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay so memorable. I would thoroughly recommend this to any couples wanting a get away in the Ardeche, you can do as little or as much as you like. The Ardeche gorge is only a short drive away. We will certainly be going back!
