Holetown holiday house: St. James

This beautiful house surpassed expectations. The photos do not do it justice! It is very spacious, and comfortable and a true home from home. It is well equipped, clean and tidy.

We particularly enjoyed sitting on the verandah and watching the monkeys parading by twice a day and the humming birds on the flowers. The gardens are lovely and well tended providing a beautiful view from the house and verandah. It is very peaceful and we spent a lot of time sitting there.

The house is conveniently situated and provides a good base for exploring the rest of the island.

The owners were very helpful too.

What can we say that has not already been said in the other reviews? Its a wonderful house at a fantastic price. We have visited Barbados several times and can honestly say this is the best accommodation we have stayed in. The other reviews are spot on, as is the description given by Mary and David, who were very helpful with any queries we had beforehand. And yes, you really do see the monkeys playing in the trees every morning. The property is situated in a very quiet residential area and the outside sitting area is not overlooked and very private, and yes we also spent more time at the house than on the beach, it was just so peaceful. Although the house is within walking distance of Holetown, we would recommend hiring a car as its a fairly steep hill up to the property, although you can use the shortcut, its not ideal at night. We love cricket but couldn't get out there for the Twenty/20 World Cup, so imagine our surprise when we heard the teams were playing warm up matches at Kensington Oval during our last week, and typical of Barbados, it was free entry! It made our holiday. Its a wonderful island with, on the whole, extremely friendly people. Thank you Mary & David for letting us stay in your beautiful home, we will certainly be booking again soon.

SIMPLY THE BEST!!! This is - in short - our review, and we know a lot accomodations on Barbados.
We spent the best holidays for years in this extraordinary house! Everything was perfect, beginning from the warm contact to the owners who supplied us with all information and were very cooperative (thanks a lot again for all your help), and of course the house itself. It is much more spacious than the photos indicate. There are separate areas and a lot of space, so even spending a family holiday, everyone can enjoy himself without bothering the others. The house is very clean and offers a large and well equiped kitchen (I didn't cook often, but the kitchen is "a dream"). We spent a lot of time on he wonderful shady and large verandah with a very comfortable suite and often preferred staying "at home" instead of leaving for the beach. Sitting on the verandah watching the monkeys strolling along in the woods is very relaxing..
The surrounding of the house is quiet. Using the shortcut, it's only a few minutes walk to the shopping area , buses and beaches. There are also a lot of restaurants and bars nearby (Lexi's Bar for life music). Try the small chattlehouse bars (especially Coxie's) which often serve good food, as well as the food sold from small vans all over the island.
Barbados is a very safe island - so don't hesitate to explore it by car, bus or hiking!
The house is a real home away from home and offers great value for for the price!!! It was so hard to leave! Mary and David, thank's again for sharing your house with us (and others)! We'll be back as soon as possible!
