The town of Santiago de la Ribera is situated on the north shore of the Mar Menor, 5-10 mins drive from Murcia (San Javier) airport and 35 mins drive from the La Manga strip. Costa Calida offers the best climate in the whole of Spain , warm and dry throughout the year, with little rain and a large number of hours of sun per year. From the dune belt spread with salt ponds on the western coastline through to the Cabo de Gata with its fine sands and isolated coves, protected by mountains, cliffs and finishing with the beaches of Vera, Santiago de la Ribera evolved from a fishing village into the premier summer holiday destination for well-heeled Murcian families, who built their houses along the coastline.
