Things to Do - Datca:
Datca town is about a 3 km walk from the villa and is set on a beautiful harbor, lined with sailing boats, restaurants and tourist shops. Tourism is on a small scale and has been tastefully developed and Datca provides a welcoming Turkish experience.
At night the harbor comes alive, with families mingling and enjoying the restaurants and wandering along the promenade. There is one nightclub for those seeking night life!
There are safe swimming beaches with very clear water all around town, all having lovely views of the nearby Greek Islands of Kos & Rhodes. You can enjoy the range of cafes and restaurants that are directly on the beach. Sailing boats and lessons are available.
There is a Migros supermarket within 10 minutes walk of the villa. Alternatively the Saturday market is a wonderful experience, with locals coming to sell their fresh food and vegetables and 'designer' goods!
Around Datca:
Datca is situated on a peninsula with pine & olive-covered hills leading down to sparkling bays and traditional villages and restaurants. You can still observe traditional life in the villages where olive and almond-farming stilll continues. Several days can be spent exploring the peninsula either by scooter, bus or rental car.
At the tip of the peninsula is Knidos, the site of historic ruins, just 45 minutes drive away. There are also a myriad of coves and swimming beaches with little tourism.
15 km from Datca is a new 'Water Park' with a pool, beach, restaurant and the grand total of 2 slides! The children love it.
For those seeking shopping, tourism and night-life - Marmaris and Bodrum make worthwhile day trips.
Boats / Wind Surfing / Sailing:
At the Datca harbour there are many daily boat excursions. There are fishing trips or excursions to the Greek islands of Symi and Rhodes. (Visas are required for some nationalities). Ahmet also knows the boat owners and would be able to help you charter a boat.
A twice-daily ferry service runs to Bodrum – tickets can be purchased from the ticket office in Datca or from the ferry. Round trip is TL 25m. A bus takes you to the ferry port just outside of Datca. You can also take cars on the ferry but need to book ahead.
Private yachts or gulets can be organised, with sufficient notice. In 2007 we hired a boat and sailed from Bodrum to the Greek Islands for a week.
Sailing lessons for both children and adults and wind-surfing hire available in Datca.
Other Activities:
Local market every Saturday.
