Situated within an easy drive of both the airport and the main town Argostoli, Lourdas is a quiet, unspoilt resort with the majestic slopes of Mount Aenos, the highest point of the island, as a backdrop. The long sand and shingle beach extends for 2 kilometres as far as Trapezaki, with beachside tavernas, mini-markets, sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, and watersports in high season. More restaurants, tavernas, bars and supermarkets can be found In Lourdas village, 500 metres uphill from the beach. Argostoli is only a 15 minute drive away, with its fashionable shops, cafes, harbour and long promenade, where the fishermen land their daily catch, which can be bought straight from the boats. Here also the banks, cash machines and main post office are located.
The nearby Kastro Aghios Georgios, once the islands capital, has spectacular views and interesting ruins. For keen walkers there are some scenic routes such as the Sissia Monastery and Mount Aenos. An ideal base for exploration.
