La Maison du Petit Roque is a delightful, rustic stone cottage, renovated for quiet summer holidays. It is ideal for couples or small families, peaceful and private. The cottage is set on the hillside vineyard in a large garden with fruit and nut trees. A spacious, sunny terrace, perfect for meals, BBQ, cocktails, offers panoramic views of the Dordogne River valley. Indulge in an afternoon nap here or under a chestnut tree. French doors from the comfortable, recently refurbished country kitchen, and from the living room open on to this terrace. The master bedroom has French doors opening to an eastern, covered terrace. The second bedroom offers traditional wrought iron twin beds. Petit Roque is a 5 minute walk to a gastronomic restaurant, and only 5 minutes by car to local villages. The river - rent canoes or kayaks at the village - is just a 10 minute walk down the hill, as is the owner's property, where you are welcome for an afternoon swim at the family pool.

For foodies, the colourful and traditional street markets of St Foy and Castillon are among the most renowned in France. Nearby villages boast fine restaurants for all budgets. For working up an appetite, the Dordogne offers fishing or canoeing and kayaking. Walking or bike riding in the hills is a delight. Historic towns are in easy reach - St. Emilion is only 25 minutes away and Bordeaux (one hour) makes a wonderful day trip for all ages and interests.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Rental fee includes electricity and gas (for the cooker). If you require bed and bath linen, the fee is 10 euros per person. Please bring your own pool towels. Most guests use their mobile telephones, but please let us know if you require a land line. Telephone is not included. A deposit of 25% of the total rental is due upon reservation. The remainder is due one month before your arrival, along with a security deposit equal to one week's rent . (Security deposit as a cheque in sterling or euros which will be returned to you after your departure.) Arrival time is 4:00pm, departure time is 10:00am. The normal changeover day is Saturday. Petit Roque may be available for long term let in the off season. The cottage is equipped with electric heating (radiators.) The kitchen can be heated by its large fireplace. Our location is ideal if you are searching to buy a home in the region and need a cosy place to stay while you are looking. Please enquire about monthly rates.
  • The owners or the guardian of the property are in their homes located on the grounds, just a 5 minute walk down the hill from the vineyard. We speak English and French and are happy to answer any of your questions and help in any way we can. The property produces its own fine wine (Bordeaux Superior) and you will find a welcome bottle in your kitchen when you arrive.
  • You are very welcome to enjoy our large swimming pool (12 meters by 6 meters) on the grounds of the family house from noon to 5 pm every day. It is equipped with an EU approved alarm system, but does not have a shallow end, so parental supervision is necessary.

  • The bathroom was updated recently with a new sink/mirror/lighting unit. The shower is brand new (2009) and extra large (90 cm) for greater comfort.

The second bedroom has two twin beds in traditional wrought iron. We can provide a portable baby cot (for a baby up to age 1) if requested.

Notes: The garden is large, approximately 2 1/2 hectares, with plenty of shade, lovely chestnut trees and two fig trees. The farmer's house is on the other side of the garden with a hedge between the properties. There is a small woods on one side and the vineyards are just across the path.

A little gem

We quite fell in love with this very charming little house. It glows with warm light and feels like a 'real' place, not overstuffed with pampering 'gitery' like so many places, but offering just the right balance of useful equipment to make it feel like a home. Simple, clean and beautiful. Light filters through the chestnut tree into the kitchen, and the vine above the terrace hums with the sound of bees. You could sit and watch the view from the terrace for hours. The lightning show was particularly spectacular! The farmhouse is ideal for small children - our two loved running in and out and around the house through all the French windows, and eating al fresco every day. The pool at the chateaux was also a great treat for all, and the owners most kind and welcoming. The area is full of interest and this house offers a perfect base for exploring the Perigord Poupre. The village shop in Pessac is friendly and well stocked (bread, lovely ripe fruit, veg and fresh meat included), and there's a nice little brocante next door for an hour's rummaging! I would warmly recommend the farmhouse as a delightful place to stay.

This is our second visit to this delightful farmhouse. As we stated within our first review sometimes your take a chance when you pick a holiday location at short notice, from the internet, we needn't have worried and enjoyed our first visit so much we returned this year. Yet again we had a great holiday this really is a spot that you would never tire of, we didn't feel the need to eat out all the time and most evening meals where taken on the patio area, with that fantastic view what more could you wish for.
There is plenty to do however if you wish a more active holiday and it is a perfect location for sightseeing in some of the delightful little towns and villages within a short distance. The pool was used on most days, it's a good size and perfectly situated within the chateau grounds close to the river, a lovely spot and only a few minutes from the gite.
We will be returning next year, September this time to experience another season, we can't wait.

Fantastic holiday

This property is exactly as stated. We had an amazing two week holiday here. The owners and the guardians of the property were extremely helpful and friendly. The house is very private with large gardens all the way around. And the view is stunning. It was easy to find and within easy reach (by car) of St. Emillion, Bergerac and other smaller towns. We would definately recommend it to firends or return ourselves.

Excellent Family Holiday Let

Petit Roque excelled all of our expectations - the beautifully decorated and equipped authentic farmhouse is surrounded with extensive areas of grass, trees, vineyards and a wonderfully sunny terrace with views overlooking the Dordogne and Pessac. We ate on the terrace from breakfast to supper most days and found numerous supermarkets large and small for provisions in the surrounding villages. Our trips to the swimming pool were eagerly anticipated by our two sons and there was always a warm welcome when we arrived with the opportunity to ask any questions. Freshly baked bread is available every morning from the local village and there is a very reasonably priced restaurant in Pessac sur Dordogne - The Dolphin - whose food was fresh and plentiful. We had several trips out including Bordeaux which is close enough for a day trip and well worth the visit for the Museum and Art Galleries - and if you are interested in Romanesque Churches there are some very good examples near by. If you're looking for a quiet holiday let with lots of space and wonderful views then you can't get much better than this. Andrew, Carol, Ben and Guy

Good wine, good view

The terrace provided a wonderful view of the valley, the river, the circulating ospreys and the lightening! Great suntrap as well. Cottage had everything you needed for a peaceful holiday with the added bonus of their own wine. Comfortable but not luxurious. Lots of sightseeing opportunities and quiet out of school holidays.
