Central Apartment in Old Quarter of Historic Town.

This centrally located apartment is cosy and very convenient for exploring the town and surrounding areas of the beautiful northern coast of Galicia. Situated in the heart of the Old Quarter, in a pedestrian’s area, the apartment is surrounded by bars, restaurants, cafés, shops and all amenities. The pretty port is a short stroll away, as is the Maritime Walkway with cycle paths along the banks of the River Eume. All around the nearby coast are many popular sandy beaches, the largest, 1 km in length, in Cabañas, only 1.5km away, a pleasant walk across the Roman Bridge. During the summer months, many local fiestas bring street entertainment and interesting events to the area. The apartment has a small balcony which overlooks the pedestrian’s area and during fiestas, one can enjoy watching the action in the street below. NB AS IT IS CLOSE TO BARS, CAFÉS, etc. IN SUMMER AND AT WEEKENDS THE AREA IS NOISY AND MAY BE UNSUITABLE FOR LIGHT SLEEPERS IN NEED OF PEACE AND QUIET.

The town of Pontedeume, where the apartment is located, is in itself a pretty tourist spot which the Spanish enjoy visiting throughout the year. With its mediaeval, cobbled streets, attractive port and bridge which dates to Roman times, it is a pleasant area for tourists to explore and sample the local cuisine and Galician wines - seafood is especially good in Galicia. In less than 40 minutes, one can drive to the cosmopolitan, bustling city-port of La Coruña with wonderful shopping opportunities, delightful gardens, long Maritime Walkway, sandy beaches, museums and lively night-life. The Old Quarter is worth a visit, strolling through narrow streets and visiting churches dated from the 12th Century as is the Torre de Hercules, a lighthouse dating back from Roman times which guarded the entry to the magnificent port of the city itself. Santiago de Compostela is about one hour drive away and not to be missed ! An historic city, famous for a Pilgrimage to its great Cathedral.
