Villa Marco Polo is a lovely self catered villa almost on top of the Puig Sec, a quite resedential area of L'Escala with private pool of 9, 5 - 3.5 mtrs. (2.50 deep), a beautiful view and lots of privacy. There are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Spacious living/ dining room newly furnished in 2007, seats 8. Bedlinen can be rented, washing machine and dryer available. Secluded private garden with lots of privacy 700 sqr. metres, property has walls all around. Three terraces, one at pool level with BBQ and large stone table (seats 10), upper terrace with large table & chairs and lovely view at the sea and Pyrenees. Third terrace with table and 5 chairs next to the master bedroom. Two beaches (Cala Montgo and Riels) with restaurants, bars and shops at 1.200 and 1.500 mtrs. 8 Beautifull golf courses within 45 minutes drive, the nearest within 15 minutes. Villa Marco Polo is situated in a residential area of L'Escala, a hill called Puig Sec. L'Escala is a small village, in the South of the Bay of Roses with a genuine old centre, surrounded by many safe beaches. South, there is Cala Montgo (1.500 mt from the villa), a secluded beach on a beautiful bay with marvellous views over the whole of the Bay of Rosas from the top of Montgo. Just two kilometres North, at St. Marti D' Empuries, a beautiful medieval village, one finds a large archaeological site at the seaside with kilometres of beautiful, quite beaches. There are also three beaches in the village, of which Riells (1.200 mt) is the largest with a lively promenade. Scuba diving, sailing and wind-and kitesurfing are very popular. Within 15- 45 minutes, 8 golf courses. L'Escala, with its many restaurants offers a variety of food. For shopping there are several supermarkets (a large Carrefour (10 min. drive) and a large market on Sundays.

    Final cleaning is mandatory, € 65, to ensure that all renters wil find the villa clean and tidy. Additional cleaning is possible upon request.
    Airconditioning, which system also serves as heathing via three separate controllable units, is optional at € 30 a week. As a guideline: airco is mainly used in July and August. Heathing as of end October till end of March, especially for chilly evenings. For exemple it can easily be around 25C during afternoons in October with sunny weather.
    Cashdeposit of € 250,00 is required upon arrival, this will be refunded when leaving, after inspection by local agency.
    Bedlinen can be rented at €10 a set, to be reserved in advance.
    Handling fee local agency € 25 per for each contract. The local agency is fully at your disposal during your stay, pick-up of keys, a handyman is available when needed, the agency takes care of the cleaning of the villa, the pool and the garden.
  • Short stay will be considered with a minimum of three nights in low/mid season, Friday, Saturday and Sunday are considered to be weekend nights.

    A dog is considered, free of charge.

    Long term renters are welcome and will be charged favorable reduced rates.

Bedlinen can be provided at €10 a set, please reserve when booking, a washing machine and a tumble dryer are available. Notes: The air conditioning system which also serves the heating of the whole villa (3 units, which can be used independently via remote control), has been installed in November 2007. The use is optional at €30 a week. The villa is suitable for elderly, however the living area is in fact at the first floor, since the villa is build in a mountain area, so one must be able to climb the stairs outside (Please, contact owner for pictures). The villa has no internet access, but there are several internet points/ bars in L'Escala, the nearest at 5 minutes, also several free WIFI possibilities, o.a. Bar Caravella in the old village. Besides eating indoors, there are 3 possibilities to have breakfast, lunch or dinner outside: pool terrace with large stone BBQ and stone table with a bench and chairs (seats up to 10), upper terrace next to the living room and smaller terrace at he back of the house next to the master bedroom (located in the morning sun, shadow in the afternoon).

Location of the villa: For location of the villa, see Google maps, C/ Vall d'Aran at the corner of C/ Llerca, L'Escala. As one can see, at the end of the straat is a wonderfull natural forest, leading also to Montgo beach and going on for miles along the coast and inland. Just outside the village to the north is a beautifull archeological site along the sea side, Ruinas Empuries is a national monument, therefor an unspoiled seaside with pine trees along the coast. A path of 2 kilometers only for walking and cycliing leads from L'Escala to St. Marti d' Empuries along the beach, passing the archeological site.(see pictures in private album owner) There is a possibility to rent bicycles (at C / Mallols, 46 road and in the old village). Do take into account however, that one must cycle up hill when returning to the villa.

L'Escala: L'Escala has a population of around 9,000. The town is surrounded by blue flag beaches; At the northern end of the town the Bay of Roses has some of the most beautiful unspoiled beaches anywhere. In the town centre is the popular beach at Riell's, and at the south side of town is the lovely beach at Montgo. L'Escala is one of the smaller holidays resorts at the Costa Bravan, perfect for families and independent holidaymakers wanting to avoid the mass-market package holiday resorts. Beautiful beaches, art, historic monuments, nature parks and one of Spain's most important wild bird reserves. The choice of restaurants in L'Escala are suited to all tastes covering traditional and European recipes in the menu's. Authentic Catalan, Tapas Bars, Fish Restaurants, Pizza's and Pasta's, Chinese and Mexican dishes

Sport and leisure: There are several golf courses in the area including the excellent Emporda 27 hole course. Cycling is very popular here, the area around L’Escala is mainly flat, and into the Pyrenees for the more serious riders. Tennis, walking, horse riding, go - carting and fishing and other water sports such as kayaking, sailing and snorkeling are popular are catered for and there are several scuba diving centres. At Montgo beach( 1.500 mt) one can rent kayaks, arrange scuba-diving courses, ideal for snorkeling. At the large Riels beach (1.200 mt) one can rent sailing boats, winds surf, possibilities of waterskiing and jetski. Also excellent beaches to the north of L'Escala in the Bay of Roses, a paradise for sailing and wind- and kite surfing. All beaches have fine sand and are ideal for sun bathing. At rocky parts an abundance of fish and other marine life, great sites for snorkeling.

Super Holiday!!

We had a wonderfull holiday, lovely villa in a residential area, walled garden, which was super for our 3 children, and a lot of privacy. We BBQéd a lot at the pool terrace, and had breakfast at the upper terrace. (Note that there is no fence around the pool in case of very young children.) We never hired a house before which was as complete re furnishing & decoration. Books, DVD's and toys for the swimmingpool available, and information re what to do and where to go.
A lot of safe, clean beaches nearby, from 1 km. to 2 km.
We enjoyed the old centre of L'Escala with a variety of restaurants and a large market on Sunday.
Good service from a local buro re cleaning of the pool and house.
Owner's Response: It's nice to experience that our renters enjoy their stay at Villa MarcoPolo as much as we do ourselves. We normally spend a few weeks of summerholidays, but also enjoy short breaks during the year with friends to play golf and shop in Gerona/Barcelona. Very cheap flights to Gerona airport (Ryanair and Transavia) which is only 40 kilometers away. Arrivng Friday morning and leaving Sunday afternoon allows one to have a fantastic short break with nice weather.

Wonderfull quite location, lot of privacy

We spend a lovely holiday with our teenage children in Villa MarcoPolo. Located in one of the most quite and green are's we ever found during our holidays at the Costa Brava. And within minutes of the village and beaches, where you can find everything. Went for windsurfing and kite surfing , and spend a lot of time at the pool, which was also great.
Can really recommend this house, complete and clean and a lot of space. Found a lovely restaurant at Montgo Beach (behind the house at 5 min.) just walk the rockstairs up from the beach with great 3 course day menu incl wine, water breadfor €12! (forgot the name) with view on this beatifull bay.

Lovely

We spend two weeks in Villa MarcoPolo with friends. We had a wonderfull stay and it really was above our expectations, never arrived at a holiday home so clean and well maintained. We had our small dog with us and were so happy that at the end of the street at 2 minutes there is a wonderfull natural forest, also leading to Montgo beach, which goes on for miles. We especially loved the archeological sites Empuries along the seaside just outside LÉscala. We can certainly recommend Villa MarcoPolo, a lovely house to spent days quitely but a lot of places nearby for sightseeing. Don't forget to visit the Dali museum in nearby Figueras, a must, as well as Gerona. We also played golf at at Emporda Golf in Toroella de Montgri and Platja de Pals, at about 15/20 minutes drive, absolutely fabulous.
Re. restaurants, for excelent food: Roser2 (also in the guide Michelin) we had the gastronomic menu which was delicious at an incredible low price. But we also enjoyed the other restaurants in LÉscala, good fresh food.

Lage top - Haus mit Abstrichen

Die Lage des Hauses ist optimal; ruhig und dennoch so zentral, dass man den Ort und die Strände kurzfristig erreichen kann. Jedoch benötigt man dazu einen Pkw, da sich das Haus oberhalb des Ortes befindet und man sonst ca. 1,5 km bis ins Ortszentrum und Strand gehen muss (Berggegend). Das Haus liegt sehr nahe an einem wunderschönen Pinienwald, so dass auch die Vierbeiner nicht zu kurz kamen. Ausserdem ist der Pool sehr schön.

Am Tag der Ankunft waren wir überrascht, dass das Haus leider nicht richtig gereinigt wurde. Die Badezimmer, die Garage (Waschküche), Küche und das Wohnzimmer waren schmutzig. Selbst die wenigen Pflanzen im Garten waren vertrocknet und es lagen die alten Früchte (Zitronen und Pfirsichkerne?) am Boden. Die Terrasse mit Stühlen am Hauptschlafzimmer konnte nicht genutzt werden, da die verschlossenen Türen nicht geöffnet werden konnten. Auch nach Rücksprache mit der Agentur konnten die Türen nicht geöffnet werden, da es keine passenden Schlüssel gab. Das Hauptschlafzimmer konnte nicht verdunkelt werden.
Das Haus ist vom Gesamtzustand her stark renovierungsbedürftig und unserer Meinung nach, nicht für diese Preise zu vermieten. Etwas verwirrend ist das Bild „Ausblick von der oberen Terrasse nach rechts“: Das Grün auf diesem Bild ist leider vom Nachbargrundstück. Grün ist im Garten vom Haus Marco Polo leider nicht zu finden. Das Auto kann man zwar auf dem Grundstück parken, jedoch ist die Einfahrt so steil, dass selbst ein normales Fahrzeug vorne und hinten aufsetzt.

Der Ort L'Escala und die umlaufende Umgebung ist wunderschön und dass, was man sich im Urlaub erwünscht. Auch die Strände sind schön und familienfreundlich mit wunderschönen Buchten.

Gesamt betrachtet war der Urlaub sehr erholsam, wenn auch die ersten Eindrücke die Freude ein wenig getrübt haben.
Owner's Response: Es ist sehr bedauerlich, dass offenbar das Haus nicht ordnungsgemäß gereinigt ware, als normalerweise getan bevor Gäste kommen, in sieben Jahren hat das noch nie passiert. Allerdings, wie ich verstehe von der Agentur, haben die Putz Damen die Villa direct wieder besucht auf dieses Problem zu lösen.
Wie aus der 32 Bilder in unserem privaten Foto Webalbum, die alle (potentiellen) Mieter bekommen, es gibt eine Menge Fliesen auf dem unteren Terrassen, dass kann man aus dieser Bilden sehen.
Es gibt jedoch auch einige Obstbäume und grüne Pflanzen in Töpfen und auf der Seite des Hauses und am Pool. Auch die Ansichten sind alle rundum grün, Pinien und glücklicherweise von der obenterasse auch durch (ja) wunderschönen Garten von die Nachbarn mit Meerblick über das Meert zu Rosas.
Dass frühere Mieter nicht die gefallen Zitronen, Pfirsiche und Pflaumen gepackt haben ist schade, (der Gärtner kommt einmal im Monat), normalerweise werden die Fruchten gegessen und gefallt dass die Mietern sehr.
Die Schlüssel der Metall-Zäune von die Schlafzimmer Terrasse sind genau die gleichen wie die aus dem Metall-Zäune an der Haustür, im Falle von technischen problemen, hat die Agentur ein Handwerker zur Verfügung.
Das Schlafzimmer kann nicht 100% dunkel werden, es gibt erste weiße Vorhänge vor den Türen und dann noch die blaue Vorhänge, wie mann auf den Bildern seht.
Was ist mit der Tatsache, dass die allgemeine Zustand des Hauses renovierungsbedürftig ist, ist leider nicht klar. Wir haben 4 Urlaubs Wochen in der Villa MarcoPolo verbracht, kurz vor diesem Aufenthalt. Zum Exempel: Klima Anlage / heathing wurde im Jahr 2007 installiert und alle Fenster und Türen aus Holz (mit Ausnahme des Wohn-und Badezimmer) sind durch Kunststoff ersetzt. Darüber hinaus prüft die Agentur die Villa vor dem Mieter die Villa verlassen und Reparaturarbeiten werden sofort erledigt bei der Anmeldung angegeben.
