Historic and sunny, this stone cottage overlooking the charming and romantic abbey of Pontlevoy is only steps away from the quaint centre of a lively village. Three stories high, the 400 year old historic and cosy cottage has sleeping for 5 split between its romantically beamed mezzanine and its garden level master bedroom with full bathroom. A charming private garden, gated car park and lovely west-facing, sunny balcony offer restful and romantic living outdoors, while the leather appointed, contemporary furnishings inside, set on massive teak flooring, offer contemporary comfort inside. Visit the historic Abbey of Pontlevoy or meet the locals on Place du College, while waiting for a table inside of the lovely Cafe Commerce. Or cycle or drive to the great châteaux: Amboise, Chambord, Chenonceau and Blois or very easy distance from this quaint cottage. The cottage comes equipped with a DVD, TV, WIFI. Use of 1-2 rental cars, owned by the owner, can also be arranged.

At the heart of Loire Valley châteaux, vineyards and bicycle country, close to Tours, Chenonceau, Chambord, Amboise and Blois, the house is 2 hours from Paris by train. Roman ruins, medieval masterpieces and renaissance treasures are all close by. Loire valley and Sologne cuisine and local products abound. Quaint village festivals in Montrichard, St. Aignan and Cheverny beckon all year long, while canoe paddling and kayaking on the Cher and Loire rivers are on offer for summer, as is top-notch golfing. Hiking paths, hot air ballooning and horseback riding are all available locally.

  • Bathroom has just been redone in 2007 and features tile floors and surrounds as well as a glass block shower wall.

  • The cottage is on three levels, with sleeping possible on all three. The main bedroom, on which the bathroom is also located, is at garden level with a walkout to the yard. The second bedroom area is on the third floor or mezzanine level, overlooking the living area. Sleeping would also be possible for one person on the living room sofa, which is not a pull out or futon but is a full-sized leather sofa. The mezzanine level sleeping area features 2 twin beds. Children would require supervision on this level, as the barrier is more ornamental than solid. This level would not be appropriate for very small children due to this safety issue. Mobility is important for users of this cottage, as there are stone steps outside to access the living area and narrow wooden steps inside, allowing access from the main floor to the mezzanine and the garden levels.

Staying at this property was like staying at a close friend or relative's home. Very comfortable and well equipped. The village is only steps away and very quaint and historic. There are both a very eloquent and a very practical inexpensive restaurant within a two minute stroll. The Abbey is a must see and its students are very friendly and inviting. A larger larger town, Montrichard, is only five miles away and has all shopping needs in either shops or a supermarket. We will be repeat quests and highly recommend this property!

Charming cottage in a charming village

The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable. The location couldn't be better - just a few steps from the bakery and a small grocery store, and a few more steps from a cafe/bar with delicious food. We would definitely like to return!
