The property is located in one of the loveliest areas of Aix it consists of a main house and also a gate house with 2 units, one upstairs and one downstairs. The main house is charming and well-furnished with 17th, 18th,19th century doors throughout. There is a combination living-dining room, an office, a fully equipped kitchen, 2 double bedrooms, and a mezzanine with a double bed. The gatehouse units each have separate entrances, one upstairs and one on the ground floor on opposite sides of the house. Both are spacious, tastefully furnished, and well-insulated with marble bathrooms, Italian tile throughout, overhead beams, and large built-in cupboards. The downstairs has 3 double bedrooms, 1 with 2 single beds, 1 with a queen-sized bed, and 1 with a double bed (sleeping for 6 people) and 2 bathrooms. There is a garden and terrace in front and in back. The upstairs flat has an open living-dining room- kitchen area plus 2 double bedrooms and 1 bath and a very pretty terrace.

This is the lower gate house unit, which consists of a living room opening onto a dining room, which gives on to an adjoining kitchen. Both the dining room and the kitchen have French doors leading to an outdoor terrace with table and chairs under a fig tree, where one can eat many months of the year. There is a fireplace in the dining room. There are 3 double bedrooms (sleeping for 6), 1 with 2 single beds, 1 with a queen-sized bed, and 1 with a double bed. All of them have large, built-in cupboards. There are 2 marble-tiled bathrooms, one of them ensuite. The house is well-furnished, well-insulated, light, and bright. Dishes, cooking ware, and linen are provided as is internet access (renters must bring their own computer). The environment is lovely.

The property is in one of the loveliest areas of Aix on the northeast side of town in a quiet, semi-country setting, but only 2 miles from the historic centre of town. It has large trees and verdant Provencal vegetation. The location is one of the best features of the property, as one can be in the centre of town in a few minutes to spend the day in the markets, the restaurants, the elegant spa, the museums, cinemas (many original version films), cafes and shops. But at the end of the day, one can quickly return to the peace and quiet of the country to sip wine and taste cheese and pate on the terrace or in the garden. It also allows people to proceed at different rhythms even if they are sharing a car, as inevitably some desire more activity than others. Certain guests like to start early; others can join them later or go home early to enjoy the quiet. One can walk home in a little over a half hour, or else get a taxi or take advantage of the frequent bus service 700 meters away.

Additional information about rental rates

  • The weekly price includes everything except telephone, if the phone charges are significant. If not the owner will absorb them. There is also a cleaning charge of 85 Euros due upon vacating the unit.
    A reservation is considered firm when half the rental sum has been received by the owner. This amount is non-refundable. The balance is due upon taking possession of the property. In addition, at that time there is also a security deposit due against telephone and possible damage. The amount depends on the number of people staying in the house and the length of stay.
    For long-term rentals at the very reduced price, the booking is considered firm when the first and last months' rent have been received. Utilities are included in short term rentals but not in long-term lets.
  • A rental week is from Saturday 4 P.M. til the following Saturday 11 A.M.. Check-ins are between 4 and 7 P.M.. Children are welcome in the gate house, but are the parents' responsibility, as the property is not child-proofed. Parking is provided.
  • The high season (June 1 through October 31) weekly rental price is 1400 euros, the low season weekly price (October 1 through May 31) is 1200 euros. There is a sharply digressive rate for longer term rentals in all 3 units on the property. For the main house or the lower gate house, the cost of a 2-week rental in high season is 2200 euros (and not 2800) and 1900 for 2 weeks in low season (as opposed to 2400). For the upper gate house in high season, the cost of a 2 week rental is 1400 euros (not 1800) and in low season it is 1200 (as opposed to 1600). For both gate house units, there is a much lower rental rate for long-term rentals of 6 months or more, ranging from 320 euros a week upstairs (1300 euros a month) to 475 euros a week (1900 euros a month)downstairs. In the main house on the property there is also a very special rate for the 6 weeks beginning on January 5, 2008. The cost for the entire 6 weeks is 3500 euros.
