ACTIVITIES:
The cottage has lots of brochures, maps and walking guides. If you go in June or September the wildlife is particularly attractive. France is great for cycling as there is not much traffic and the french are very tolerant of cyclists. During the summer there is a programme of guided walks, some historical some environmental.
Our children have enjoyed subsidised activities run by the Tourist Office, from circus arts, climbing in a quarry, hiphop dancing and watercolor painting. There is an excellent treetop high wire course near Lamballe (Indian Forest) with trails color coded to reflect difficulty. The swimming pool at Lamballe has recently been upgraded and has a sauna and steam room. You can play tennis at Pleboulle (next to the crazy golf) or have lessons at the tennis club at St Cast. The local archery club runs hour long taster sessions during the summer, each one finishing with a competition to win - 3 carambar!
ATTRACTIONS:
Dinan is a great little town with good shops, cobbled streets and loads of medieval houses and a castle surounded by the old city walls. There is a colorful medieval festival in July. Lamballe has outdoor entertainment in the town square every Thursday , which includes live music and a hog roast. During the summer there are lots of concerts - classical, jazz and rock/folk to choose from. Henanbihen has its annual 'fest noz' in August - breton dancing, music and local fare.
For local restaurants try La Vieille Auberge in Matignon for a relaxed atmosphere. The menu is simple - pizzas, crepes, steak and mussels, but always superbly cooked. For a special occasion La Voile D'Or at Sables-D'Or has a reputation for gastronomy, with exceptional sea food.
