My wife my 14 yr old son & myself arrived in Stoupa with mixed feelings of what to expect. Having holidayed in Symi in the Dodecanese for over 20 years Stoupa to our mind had a lot to do to impress us. We were not to be dissapointed, having spent 2 nights in Athens sightseeing we followed the excellent driving directions supplied by Wendy & Barry & arrived just after lunch with a driving time of 4.5 hours. Our hosts were just finishing prepping our appartment so we had time to aquaint ourselves with the lovely garden & bbq area together with the superb pool. Once in the appartment we were impressed with all on offer (including the chilled beers in the fridge) the rooms were all well appointed & W+B seemed to have catered for all our needs. The view from the terrace was superb & even better at sunset, also the views to the mountains from the rear of the property were equally stunning.
Stoupa itself is a lively cosmopolitan village based around a sandy radius of beach with another more sporty beach around the headland. Everyone (except nightclubbers & disco divas) are more than adequateley catered for with a great choice of tavernas, quiet & busy bars, awesome bakerys & even a couple of ice cream parlours. With a car the added attraction of mountain villages, alternative beaches up & down the coast, together with the neighbouring villages of Kardimili & Agios Nicholas we were never stuck for somewhere to go. Back to the appartment we have to say W+B were the perfect hosts, early evening drinks by the pool were accompanied by chats about local history & what to do & not do, by the end of our 2 weeks we felt we had seen & knew more about the local area than we would of done had we 'package' holidayed.
