Dreamy and comfy country house & pool in Dordogne

This lovely home is a small piece of heaven in the peaceful Perigord Vert region. It sits among rolling farm fields on a knoll with not a neighbour in sight. Very occasionally a tractor will roll by on the lane, or a car will accidentally find the wee road, not more than twice or three times a day. The garden is private, but the views are to die for. The only sounds ever (!!) are the birds, the church bells from a distant village, and sometimes it is so quiet you can hear the bees in the butterfly bush...when do we ever experience this in our modern lives? The pool rounds out the experience, lying invitingly and elegantly across the garden, in it's own private terrace, providing welcome relief from hot summer days.
The house is a dream. Thick stone walls in the local style keep one cool in the summer heat and cozy in the cool. The photos don't do it justice, although they are quite accurate. This home is beautifully appointed and yet friendly to casual living. The bedrooms are lovely, with excellent linens and space to breathe.
I honestly thought I'd entered a fantasy farmhouse when we arrived!
It is also technologically equipped, with Wifi and all the t.v. a person could desire.
The extended neighborhood is filled with historic architecture, vibrant wee farm towns and meandering rivers. There are fabulous croissants in Verteillac, just up the road, and there is even Thai food in a quaint alley of Riberac, a larger town in the other direction. Bicycling is popular all over France, and one may find festive races flying through wee towns, residents effecting their own local "tour." Canoe and kayak wanderings down local rivers are very easily accessed. The extensive farmland produces three seasons worth of fabulous fresh produce which are fun to prepare in such a well equipped kitchen, and even better to enjoy with a glass of wine in the garden.
As you can tell, we were charmed and had a wonderful visit, happily ensconced in this lovely home. We entertained friends who were also affected by the peaceful air of Le Plantou; they spent hours lolling in the garden, nibbling on excellent olives from the local market and happily perusing the daily papers. The caretakers were charming, available but not intrusive. Our hosts could not have been more accessible or helpful, nor more welcoming. They have worked hard to turn this space into a home filled with beauty and charm, every bit a match to the exquisite French countryside.
