We are temporarily vacating our first home next to Saint Sauvant to go back to Oz. Our large, renovated traditional stone farmhouse is in vineyard setting surrounded by oak and chestnut woods. The house provides ideal accommodation for 2 families or one large family with 2 large bedrooms and 2 smaller bedrooms. Includes 3 TV's, DVD and VCR players, Hi-Fi, X-Box, BBQ, bikes, toys, games + free heating. There are 2 bathrooms; 2 separate toilets, laundry as well as fully equipped kitchen and meals area. Separate lounge dining area has panoramic views through sliding glass doors with electric shutters to the terraces. Property surrounded by large garden provides outdoor meals area on the terrace or under the willow trees by the pond. Local villages provide all basic essentials as well as trout farm, tennis courts, idyllic solar heated swimming + paddle pool, horse riding centre. Situated 15 km from either Saintes or Cognac. 5 minutes to river, 40 to beach. Manager next door.

Charente Maritime is on the Atlantic coast of France. Largest city is the historic port of La Rochelle. Best weather in all of France as well as wonderful shopping, museums, art galleries, Paleosite prehistoric museum at St Cesaire 5 kms from our village next to the mediaeval village of Saint Sauvant. Surf beaches and family beaches at Royan. Wonderful walks at the back door - spend a day getting lost in the oak woods( or take a compass!) or along the banks of the Charente river 5 minutes drive away. The Cognac grapes grow all around and visits to the famous town of Cognac and it's chateaux are a must.

We stayed there this year and we fell in love with the house, the wine, the near to Cognac and the Cognac and of course the cats.
The neighbours could not speak German or English but they understand and if necessary they organised somebody who could speak English. The recommendations for the restaurants we left in the house for the next.
