The village of Great Ayton is set within the North Yorkshire National Park on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. Centrally situated there is good access to the coast with Whitby being 30 minutes drive away. The Yorkshire Dales is 30 minutes and the historic city of York is within an hours drive. The scenic Esk Valley railway has a stop in Great Ayton and travels over the Moors through 'Heartbeat' country to Whitby. The Cleveland Way passes the village and there are numerous other good nature walks within the area. The area offers many opportunities for country sports be it fishing or shooting. There are a couple of good golf courses within 20 minutes drive. The village is well equipped with a good selection of shops should you wish to self cater. There are also 3 local pubs serving excellent food and a couple of restaurants one with 2 AA rosettes. Another popular attraction within the village is the Captain Cook museum.
