L'Escala is one of the most interesting and picturesque places on the Costa Brava. The old town grew up around the fishing industry and L'Escala is world famous for its Anchovies. There is a daily fruit and vegetable market and a weekly Sunday Morning market. An excellent modern Marina accommodates the fishing fleet as well as luxury yachts and motor cruisers. Within a few minutes there are many safe sandy beaches and the clear water is ideal for scuba diving. In the area there are a whole range of other sporting facilities, including several Golf courses. A variety of bars and superb restaurants (many specialising in fish dishes) exist in the town and on the outskirts. L'Escala is an ideal family destination.
