No car necessary, very near the old quarter, restaurants, sea and down town Funchal. The market is a 5 minute walk away. The garden and pool is shared by the three flats, located on a quiet and peaceful residential area of Funchal with stunning sea views & harbour views. A perfect base to relax, enjoy the great climate down by the sea where it is warm most of the year. Large swimming pool, surrounded by subtropical plants. Deck chairs, outside dining space, barbecue for each flat. . Very nicely decorated, light and airy, great quality bedlinen and fittings. Completely renovated in January 2008 to a high quality standard while keeping its stunning period features intact. Each flat is between 80-100 m2. A casual and friendly place, great for barbecues and outdoor dining, in a totally authentic neigbourhood. No air conditioning necessary

Its the base of this elegant Madeiran villa, Large bedroom full of light sleeps 2 in a double bed with French windows. Traditional Portuguese terracotta tiled floors in all rooms. The living room has full length windows accessing the terrace. A fully equipped kitchenette and dining area. Large bathroom with bath and separate walk in shower area and window with natural light. Spacious outdoor dining area with private barbecue and deck chairs. The Cottage has its own hammock and private swing to relax in and enjoy the warm climate. Extremely peaceful, soothing accommodation. Quality cotton linen and towels included Swimming pool with deck chairs and table, surrounded by subtropical plants shared with other 2 flats but very spacious. Washing machine also available onsite. Levada walks, golf and swimming nearby: The villa is the ideal base to explore the beautiful island of Madeira, its strategic location in the heart of Funchal means it is just by the seaside were you can swim, water ski, scuba dive, sail and much more. The 2 golf courses are very near, Palheiro Golf is just 10min away and Santo da Serra Golf is just 20min away. Madeira is a walkers paradise and from here you can reach the mountains and discover the levada trails. A bus stop is nearby, and the main road to the airport is very easy to catch. Local café and corner shop is a couple of meters down the road.

Ideal base in Funchal

Great location, good facilities. If you're heading for Funchal, then the ideal place to be is the Old Town, and Villa Juvenal, of which Lavender Cottage is a part, is about 800m away. Mind you, the walk is a lot easier going towards town than it is on the way back with a full stomach, such are the hills involved. However, it's well worth being on high to enjoy the magnificent views over Funchal harbour. Although Lavender Cottage is effectively in the basement (very handy for the pool surrounded by banana palms), there is a little belvedere available where you can enjoy breakfast or a beer and watch the activity in the harbour. Accommodation inside the cottage was more than adequate for the two of us, with a huge bedroom and extra large bathroom. We also received plenty of attention from an extremely friendly cat, but we think that might just be an optional extra.
Provided you enjoy walking, and why would you go to Madeira if you don't?, then this is an ideal base for a self-catering couple.

We loved lavender cottage. The description was accurate and the location is fantastic (although its a steep climb up the hill after a night out) The cottage is spacious and clean and the pool is lovely. We had the owners pick us up and take us back to the airport which is a great service.We sat and watched beautiful sunsets each evening from a private viewing tower in the garden. You have a great view of the cruise liners coming into the harbour.
The old town is definitely the best area to stay in Funchal. Check out the Fado singers in Marcelino bar which is close by.
For a great restaurant with a terrace overlooking the sea we would recommend Riso.
We visited in october and the weather was fantastic. even in the evening it was very warm.
Use the local buses to get around: They are cheap and reliable and take you to all the tourist sights. Dont miss Nuns valley which is breathtaking.
there is so much o see and do in madeira, we will definitely be going back again soon.

Just a quick line to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Lavender Cottage. It really was quite delightful and we should like to compliment the decor and cleanliness of the cottage. We both enjoyed your book also - very impressive and informative.

Brilliant holiday

We loved our stay in the Garden Cottage, the location is perfect for us, no need for a car, peaceful and very sunny. We had a charming outside area, where we had all our meals al fresco, nice and private even though the pool area is shared. The property was very clean and well maintained, we were met at the airport by the very friendly English caretaker who showed us around and made everything very easy. We´ll be back next year and recommend it to our friends.

we had agreat time in the garden flat it has everything you need for a comfortable holliday home
the flat is great with views over the pool area
we both enjoyed the hammock and sunning in the garden
the downside of the flat is that it is not an easy walk in to town and definately not suitable to anyone unfit
the taxis are cheap but esential
