Traditional Portuguese style farmhouse and detached studio, set in 3 acres of garden and vineyard (producing Vinho Verde, the famous regional wine). Just inland from the local fishing town of Vila Praia de Ancora, a series of cobbled lanes wind their way to the villa, which has far-reaching views across a picturesque rural landscape and towards the coast. There is a patio area under the vines, with BBQ area. There is an above ground pool for sole use of guests (from May). The main farmhouse (sleeps 6/8), is a traditional old house for the region, newly modernised in 2007, with the accommodation on the first floor - the ground floor provides a laundry room and the traditional wine cellar. Newly fitted dining kitchen with seating for 10, and a lounge with a panaramic window with outstanding views. There are 3 bedrooms: 2 double (one en-suite) and a twin. The house bathroom has a freestanding shower and bath. The detached studio (sleeps 2) has a double bed, sofa, shower room and kitchen.

For use by guests

There is a travel cot, high chair and toddler toilet seat included at no extra charge. There is also a selection of English speaking children's DVDs. For surfing at the loacl beaches, there is a wet suit, a boogy board, and a Malibu surfboard for use by guests, again at no extra charge.

Garden

The property has 3 acres of mature gardens and vines. Guests can explore the gardens; relax in the shade under the vines. The farmhouse has a spacious cobbled courtyard, patio area under the vines providing BBQ area with table, chairs, and umbrella for eating out. There is also an above ground pool for sole use of guests (available from May to September 2008). The Ancora river is less than 5 minutes walk, with a 'secret swimming spot' for the locals in the summer providing crystal clear waters which is great for swimming. In the autumn guests are more than welcome to help with the grape harvest/winemaking.

Local area and getting there

The nearest beaches are less than five minute drive away in Vila Praia de Ancora, where a wide range of shops, restaurants, and a daily fresh fish market can also be found. Afife beach is less than 3km, and has an excellent seaside restaurant, surf hire and lessons, and lifeguard. It also has a freshwater lagoon (safe and warm for children). Moledo beach is upmarket and chic. The nearest airport is Oporto (Porto) which is less than an one hours drive (80 km) mostly on motorway. Oporto is served by budget airline RyanAir which flies from Stansted, Liverpool, Bristol and Birmingham (from June 08). RyanAir also fly to Santiago de Compostela in Spain which is about 140km to the north. TAP flies from Heathrow to Oporto. Car hire is essential. Oporto airport is well-served by car hire companies.
