Photos and Description of this Acequias holiday house Country house near Granada, quiet & sunny with walled garden, patios and pool.

Casa Tia Maria lies in the unspoilt tranquil village of Acequias. Near Granada, this village is set in the hills and overlooks the Valley of Lecrin, renowned for its orange and lemon groves, fed by the springs of the Sierra Nevada. This is one of the most attractive valleys in Andalucia - where the donkey is still a familiar means of transport - and it occupies a prime position relative to the beach, mountains and sightseeing. Acequias is only 25 minutes from Granada, the romantic Moorish city famous for its history, flamenco and the extraordinary Alhambra Palace, 30 minutes from the beaches of the Costa Tropical, and 45 minutes from Europe´s sunniest snow peaks and the Alpujarras ( 'Driving Over Lemons'). Each season has its flowers in Sierra Nevada - almond blossom in February, brilliant red poppies in May and bougainvillea in high summer. The countryside is wonderful for walking, horse-riding, mountain-biking, skiing, birdwatching and golf, and it has the clearest skies in Europe!

The Lecrin Valley, apart from being a great place to enjoy rural Andalucia and the best scenery, is also superbly located to see a number of prime attractions. The Alhambra, the most famous Moorish castle and palace in the world, is 20 mins drive from us, and the attractions of its city, Granada, are there for you to enjoy - the Cathedral and Capilla Real, the Science Park, tapas bars, the music festival, beautiful Carmens of the Albaicin Moorish Quarter, Flamenco clubs in the caves of Sacramonte. Compare with Cordoba and Sevilla. Elsewhere near Acequias you have the Costa Tropical with two famous castles - Salobreña and Almuñecar - overlooking beaches and sugar cane fields. Both have old towns with twisty cobbled streets hiding patios and bars. The Sierra Nevada, well known as a ski resort, also glisten invitingly as you look inland from the coast. The Alpujarras on the south facing slopes of the Sierra Nevada abound with lush vegetation and provide the best walking in Spain.

Further details for this holiday house rental in Acequias, Spain

Skiing: Acequias is 50 minutes from the Sierra Nevada ski slopes. It is an ideal location for a group who are 'fairweather' skiers, that is people who like to go skiing when the slopes are uncrowded and the weather clear, but are not bound to go every day. The accessibility to Granada, the Alpujarras and the Costa Tropical are all great advantages for those seeking a day´s alternative to skiing. The manager on-site can brief you as to how the ski resort works, what to do about car parking, times and places to avoid etc.

Walking and Hiking: The Lecrin Valley is situated at the western end of the Sierra Nevadas, so there are many walks passing through the Sierras and around the foothills which pass through the village, including the GR-7 trans-European pathway which traverses Spain from Algeciras eastwards, eventaully reaching Athens! There are a number of walking groups with a friendly open policy towards visitors, normally these groups walk on Sundays. However there are plenty of documented walks for hikers of all abilities to enjoy whatever the season. These can be within the Valley itself, such as the beautiful river walk along the Rio Conchar to Melegis, or between the Valley and the Alpujarras, such as the walk from Acequias to Lanjaron, the famous Spa town. This latter walk is long (four hours) and there are buses leaving from Lanjaron which can bring the hiker back to Lecrin again afterwards.

Other Activities: Golf, sailing, paragliding, windsurfing and diving all nearby on the coast, skiing in Sierra Nevada

if you are looking for a quiet escape and to stay somewhere away from tourists and the built-up coastline, the village of Acequias is just that. If you enjoy walking, it is right on the GR7 european footpath and there are lots of other walks you can do right from the village. car hire is essential though (unless you want to walk 30 mins to get bread and groceries in the next village). The casa roma house is well kitted out with everything you will need, there are even books on the book case in case you forget one! The double bed is a bit small and soft but the twin beds are very comfy. the roof terrcae is a great spot for the afternoon sun and sunset viewing. The pool is a nice size and the house has nice gardens, very peaceful. the manager there is really friendly and helpful with lots of tips of places to visit, restaturants to eat at and where to get the best tapas. its close to Granada, the coast and the mountains, what more could you want? Our week there was perfect, lovely weather (April) 22 deg and sunny, quiet and escape from the hussle and bussle of everyday life.

Casa Roma within Tia Maria

bladesaway Scarborough, England
Review Submitted: April 13, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2008
We stayed in 2008 and enjoyed the comfortable modern house, with a "homely feel" with bits of the owner´s pictures and painting around. The kitchen was big enough to eat in and we made good use of the washing machine. We bought fresh bread from the daily bread vans, and other supplies from nearby villages, so a car is needed.
The peaceful location, with easy access to the mountains for walking, Granada for culture and the coast for the sea, made it all a relaxing week, just the job for a "getaway from it all" break we needed
Returning to the garden and pool after busy sightseeing was a treat, as was sitting on the terrace at the top of our house with our drinks and books.

Wonderful countryside on the doorstep, recommended to friends and we will go again.

Casa Roma, Casa Tia Maria

Aran London, England
Review Submitted: April 13, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2008
Me and my family stayed in Casa Roma, situated in the Tia Maria complex, for a week last spring. I was surprised to see the pool already open in April and although a bit chilly it lent a sparkling contrast to the lush gardens in front of the house opposite the Church plaza.

The house itself is very comfortable and quiet. The kitchen is well equipped and for anything you need there is someone on hand to help you find it. The bedrooms are both a good size and the bathroom too, and upstairs the roof terrace is private, sunny and offers views up to the dramatic Sierra Nevada mountains outside the village as well as the Valley of Lecrin below.

All in all we recommend the house for a quiet sunny break anytime from Easter to end October. It is close to Granada, the Costa Tropical and the Alpujarra villages. Walking around the village is a delight. The nearby village of Niguelas has bars and shops and activity aplenty: its a lovely walk there and back, but nice to sleep in Acequias which is a haven of tranquility.

Over the winter I am told it can be cold at nights but the house does have a potent woodburning stove well placed to heat most of the living areas.

The owner of the house also has apartments in Granada and a house on the Costa Tropical for those who fancy a two centre holiday. We stayed in Granada a few nights. Although you can drive to both places easily, it is nice also to sample the evenings there and enjoy a drink without having to drive home!
